Learn about the formation of Yardang landform

The formation of Yadan landform has gone through a long historical process. It was formed by lake bottom deposition, crustal movement, rain erosion and strong wind erosion. The Dunhuang Basin was a very large forest about two million years ago. At that time, the climate here was mild and humid, and the water plants were rich, which was suitable for the survival and reproduction of all kinds of animals and plants. Due to abundant rainfall, a vast freshwater lake was formed, which reached Guazhou in the east and Lop Nur in the west, that is, the ancient Lop Nur. About 730,000 years ago, the temperature here began to rise, and it became dry and hot. After the lake was evaporated, the bottom of the lake was gradually exposed. Up to now, 120,000 years, it has experienced violent crustal movement, which has lifted the soil layer buried deep underground, while the exposed stratum has been gradually developed under the action of floods and wind for a long time, forming the Yadan landform we see now.
