Best Time to Visit Chengdu and Pandas 2025

To see giant pandas in Chengdu, spring and autumn are more recommended with pleasant weather and chances to see active giant pandas. Generally speaking, the giant pandas are more active before 12:00, it is more recommended that you visit the giant pandas in the morning.
 

In spring(March to May), giant pandas in Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding are active, and you can see the giant pandas eating and playing. In spring, you may see the interactions between mother pandas and baby pandas, which will be a unique experience.
 

In summer(June to August), it is recommended that you visit the giant pandas in the morning because the giant pandas may be taken indoor when temperature is over 26℃. And summer is also the school vacation with crowds, you may wait in line for a long time to see the giant pandas in Chengdu.
 

In autumn(September to November), it is comfortable to visit the giant pandas with the cool temperature. And July to October is the time when mother pandas give birth to baby pandas, you can see the baby pandas at the Moon Giant Panda Nursery House during this time. In autumn, giant pandas are active with the comfortable weather. Autumn is also the best time to explore some famous attractions near Chengdu like Leshan Giant Buddha, Mount Emei and Jiuzhai Valley.

Second Recommended: September to November

September to November is also recommended to visit Chengdu with cool, dry and comfortable weather, which is suitable for sightseeing and outdoor activities like pandas watching and mountain climbing. Except for Chengdu, September to November is also suitable for visiting the Leshan Giant Buddha with clear sky and sunny days.

Less Recommended: December to February

Though Chengdu is cold in winter, December to February is the best time for travelers who want to avoid the crowds in Chengdu. December to February is the best time to enjoy the hot pot in Chengdu. As the hometown of Sichuan hot pot, you should not miss the hot pot in Chengdu. And eating hot pot in cold winter is really comfortable.

Not Recommended: July to August

It is not recommended to visit Chengdu from July to August because Chengdu will be full of domestic tourists during this time of summer vacation. During this period, you need to wait in line for a long time for visiting the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding. And the weather is really hot in Chengdu, which is not suitable for strolling around the streets and observing giant pandas.
 

Traveling to Chengdu From July to August

If you need to travel to Chengdu from July to August or take your children to visit Chengdu from July to August, and you can also see the giant pandas during this time. It is recommended that you choose the Dujiangyan Panda Base in Dujiangyan rather than the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding in Chengdu with more comfortable temperature and less crowds.
