Nanshan Pasture is located 75km South of Urumqi, at the northern foot of Karawuquntag Mountain, a spur of the Tianshan Mountains. Traveling through this narrow verdant gully is a unique experience for natural scenery lovers. The Ka zakhs usually spend summer here between May and October and graze their herds. Visitors can take a horseback tour guided by local Kazakhs. In a traditional yurt, the hospitable host will welcome you in with fragrant milk tea, mare's milk, cheese and roasted lamb.

Nanshan Pasture stretches over a vast natural area with fascinating scenery. The elevation around the Nanshan Pasture is about 1, 600 meters on average. It is cool in summer and could be the nearest summer resort of Urumqi. It is located 60 kilometers south of the suburbs of Urumqi City, about 2 hours driving.

The Nanshan Pasture (Chinese name: 南山牧场) is a green, fertile valley surrounded by attractive mountains. Among the mountains, White Willow Ditch is a unique and graceful peak, snow-capped all year round. In the pasture, you can appreciate a beautiful picture of steep mountains, luxuriant grassland, herds of sheep and cattle, and can ride horses, running through the valleys, or walk through the woods to pick mushrooms.
 

History

Juhuatai Scenic Area

Juhuatai Scenic Area is located in the Nanshan Pasture, which is more than 50 kilometers away from Urumqi. With an altitude of 2,000-2,400 meters and an area of about 500 hectares, Juhuatai is an alluvial fan with a gentle slope. Coming to Juhuatai, you will walk along the winding road up the mountain and get picturesque scenery.

The long slope is like colorful brocade woven by green grass and red, blue, white, purple and other wild flowers. On a meadow of the Juhuatai, you will see the endless wild chrysanthemums under the blue sky and snow-capped mountains.

Xiaoquzi Scenic Area

Xiaoquzi Scenic Area is located about 50 kilometers southwest of Urumqi, between Juhuatai and Xiejiagou Valley. With an average elevation of about 2200 meters, Xiaoquzi IS adjacent to Xibaiyanggou Vallry of Nanshan Pasture. Xiaoquzi is a forest meadow with a length of about 6 kilometers and a width of about 500 meters. From April to October every year, this meadow is full of wild chrysanthemums, which are fragrant.

Xiaoquzi is a virgin forest with lush trees, green grasslands and flocks of cattle and sheep. It is warm in winter and cool in summer with fascinating scenery. It is not only a rich and beautiful natural pasture, but also a summer resort. It's a classic route that is recognized as the road of sea of flowers.

The scenery at Juhuatai is different in different seasons. In May, the wild chrysanthemums are golden in Xiaoquzi. In June, white flowers bloom. In July, the flowers are red and charming. In August, the flowers at Xiaoquzi are mostly purple.

Grassland in the Air

Grassland in the Air of Nanshan Pasture is located in a high-altitude grassland in Xibaiyanggou Scenic Area. It is a good place for people to relax themselves. The best time to visit the Nanshan Pasture is May to October. In spring(April to May), the flowers at Nanshan Pasture start to bloom and the grass turn lush. Spring is also the best time to enjoy the sea of flowers in Nanshan Pasture. Summer(June to August) is the peak season of Xinjiang travel. And Xinjiang is full of tourists during this time. And the climate in Nanshan Pasture in summer is cool, which is suitable for avoiding heat in summer. In autumn, the grasslands at Nanshan Pasture turn yellow, which is also beautiful with the snow mountains in the distance with less crowds.
