Xining - Lhasa Trains

 

Xining and Lhasa are both hot destinations for tourists from domestic and abroad. The two cities now has railway connected, which offer tourists a way to see the beauty along the railway from Xining to the Tibetan Plateau by train. Here, you will find some information about Xining - Lhasa trains, including train schedule and some tips for travel to the two cities. Hopping these are helpful to you China tour. (Update on November 14, 2014). 

The first character of train number has special meanings.
G–High-Speed Train

Note: Among the above trains, only T27 and T265 depart daily. k9801 and T223 departs on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday only, while K917 and T23 depart on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. Please check the trains schedule first before you make you train travel from Xining to Lhasa.

Note: Among the trains mentioned above, only T28 and T266 depart every day. K918 and T24 sets off on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday, while K9802, T266 and T166 on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. You should check the train schedule first until you make the trip plan by train.

Notes for Taking trains in China

1. Booking an original train is easier than booking a passing-by train.Train ticket can be booked 20 days in advance at most. As Xining - Lhasa train tickets are quite hot in China, to ensure the availability of the ticket, TCT suggests you book the ticket as early as you can. And Xining - Lhasa train ticket is a little more expensive than other portions of tickets.

2. Generally, the seats on the train in China have tow types including soft seat and hard seat. Train sleepers are classified into two types: soft sleeper and hard sleeper. Hard sleeper has three sub-categories: upper hard sleeper, middle hard sleeper and lower hard sleeper; Soft sleeper has two sub-categories: upper soft sleeper and lower soft sleeper (better). If you take an over-night train or long distance train, you would better buy a ticket for soft sleeper to make your trip more comfortable.

Domestic Travel High Season
The most crowded seasons in China are Chinese Spring Festival (usually in late Jan or early Feb.), International Labor Day (May 01 to 03) and National Day (Oct 01-07). Spring Festival and the National Day golden week are the most crowded time for travelling.

Best Time to Visit Lhasa:
Summer and autumn, especially from August to October is the best time to visit Lhasa. The warm and humid climate in these two seasons is unlike the dry and windy weather in winter and spring. Summer and autumn are the most comfortable time in Lhasa; from March to October, the climate becomes mild and humid and is the best season for travel in Tibet. The Spring and Winter in Lhasa are dry and windy.

Best Time to Visit Xining :
The best time to visit Xining is from May to September. The climate in Xining is characterized as having an arid climate with little rain and has plenty of sunshine; it is dry and windy in spring, and has a short summer season and a long and cold winter. In the coldest month the temperature may drop to -9 degree Celsius, and in the summer it is always less than 20 degree Celsius, a perfect place to escape the heat waves in the plain areas.
