Basum Lake
Basum Lake is located in a deep valley, with an altitude of 3,538 metes. Basum Lake is a crescent-shaped lake surrounded by mountain ranges and lush trees, like an emerald embedded in a valley. Then the river runs through a narrow passage between the two 7,000-meter high peaks of Namjagbarwa and Jialabailei, forming the deepest, narrowest and longest canyon in the world- the
Yarlung Zangbo Grand Canyon which stretches 496 km long and averages over 5,000 m deep. The diversified climatic zones distributed vertically in the canyon determine its vertical distribution of diversified vegetation and numerous wild animals. Nearly 5,000 species of vegetation have already been found here.
The best time to visit Yarlung Zangbo Grand Canyon is from May to Oct.. If you want to go hiking, it is better to choose the period from early June to mid-Oct. After Oct., it will snow heavily and Motuo will block the mountain until next June.
Huge Cypress Nature Reserve
Huge Cypress Nature Reserve consists of huge cypress trees, located in Nyingchi. There is one 46 meters tall and about 2,000 to 2,500 years old huge cypress tree, which is respected as the sacred tree by local people.
It is a regional-level nature reserve set to protect the giant cypresses. Located Nyingchi County at eastern Tibet, it was built in 1985 with an area of 80,000 hectares. It located at the mountain canyon, surrounded by mountains which are about 5,000 meters above sea level. The canyons altitude is about 3000 meters, withrelative elevation about 2,000 meters away.
Zayu Nature Reserve
The main attraction in this area is the
Zayu Nature Reserve. The reserve is located at the southeast corner of the Tibetan Plateau, at the juncture of two parts of the Himalaya Mountain Range. Zayu Nature Reserve consists of the Ciba Gully Nature Reserve, Shuzhub Village Nature Reserve and Lhamo Lungba Nature Reserve.
The forest of Yunnan pine trees has an intact primitive landscape, with a regular forest. The total stock volume of trees is about 200,000 cubic meters, an average of over 1,200 cubic meters per hectare. Various growth factors are four to five times of the counterparts in other places of China. The primitive forest landscape is well preserved here. It is a haunt of rare wild animals, such as the Bangladesh tiger, bear, leopard, pangolin, golden vulture and python. The cliff sculptures in Zayu County are another famous attraction.
