Hung Hom Station

Hung Hom Station is a major interchange for the MTR East Rail Line and Tuen Ma Line, connecting you to all parts of Hong Kong efficiently. Hung Hom Station, formerly known as Kowloon Station, is the only international train station in Hong Kong. It is the terminus for trains to Guangzhou, and other destinations in Guangdong as well as Beijing and Shanghai.

Tough the station is named as Hung Hom, it is quite far from the central part of Hung Hom area, which is at least 15 minutes away on foot. To reach central Hong Kong – either Tsim Sha Tsui or Central – you’ll need to take the metro MTR at the station.

Hung Hom serves as the southern terminus of both East Rail Line and West Rail Line, and also the terminus of cross-border services with destinations to major cities in China mainland including Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Zhaoqing, Foshan, Dongguan in Guangdong. Transfers between the East Rail Line and West Rail Line are provided through cross-platform interchanges.

Operating Hours

The station is open from 05:20 to 01:25. The specific operating hours of the East Rail Line and the Tuen Ma Line may vary according to different destinations.
 

Station Structure and Facilities

  • Station Layout
    • Platforms: The station has a total of 7 platforms with a triple - island platform design. Platforms 1 and 4 are for the East Rail Line trains towards Lo Wu/Lok Ma Chau, platforms 2 and 3 are for the West Rail Line trains towards Tuen Mun, platforms 5 and 6 are for cross - border through - train platforms, and platform 7 is for freight trains and is not open for passenger use for the time being.
    • Lobbies: There are 4 floors in total. The C/U2/3 floors are the halls for Exit C and cross - border through - trains, the 2nd floor is the hall for Exits A, B, and D, and the P floor is the platform floor. The Tuen Ma Line is on the upper layer, and the East Rail Line is on the lower layer, connected by escalators.
  • Facilities
    • Customer Service Centres: There are customer service centres in the A, B, and D lobbies and the C - exit lobby. Staff can provide information and assistance in English.
    • Restrooms: Restrooms are available on the platform and in the lobby areas, clearly marked in English.
    • Luggage Storage: There are electronic lockers in the station for guests to store their luggage. The usage instructions are also in English.
    • Shops and Vending Machines: There are shops, ATMs, and vending machines in the station, providing convenience for guests to purchase daily necessities and snacks.
       

Ticketing Information

Octopus Card



It is a convenient payment method in Hong Kong. Guests can purchase an Octopus card at the station's customer service centre or vending machines. It can be used to pay for MTR fares, bus fares, and also for purchases in some shops and restaurants.


Single - Journey Tickets
Single - journey tickets can be purchased at the ticket vending machines in the station. The operation interface of the vending machines has an English - language option, and guests can follow the prompts to buy tickets.

Cross - border Train Tickets
 
For cross - border through - trains to the Chinese mainland (such as to Beijing West, Shanghai, Guangzhou East, etc.), guests can purchase tickets at the Inter - City Passenger Service Centre. It should be noted that cash is only accepted at the service centre. And it is recommended to start checking in about 45 minutes before the train departs.
 

How to get to Hung Hom Station

  • By MTR

The station is the southern terminus of both the East Rail Line and the Tuen Ma Line. Guests can take the MTR to reach other parts of Hong Kong. For example, they can take the East Rail Line to Lo Wu or Lok Ma Chau for border - crossing, or transfer to the Tuen Ma Line to other destinations.

  • By Bus:

There is a bus terminus at the station. Bus routes such as 5C, 8A, and 8 are available. The bus stop signs at the station are also in English, making it convenient for English - speaking guests to
identify.

  • By Taxi

Taxis are available outside the station. Guests can simply tell the driver the destination in English.

  • By Airport Express Shuttle Bus

Airport Express Shuttle Buses travelling to/ from MTR Kowloon Station are available.
 

How to get to Hung Hom Station from Hong Kong Airport

The station is connected to Kowloon Station by a regular and free shuttle bus. And then you can catch the Airport Express train straight to the airport from Kowloon Station. This is the most convenient to get there.
 

Surrounding Facilities

Educational Institutions: The Hong Kong Polytechnic University is nearby.
Cultural Institutions: Such as the Hong Kong Science Museum and the Hong Kong History Museum are within easy reach.
