Train from Guangzhou to Lhasa

There is only one train sent from Guangzhou Railway Station at 12:19 to Lhasa Railway Station at 19:20 (+2days). It is an express train T264/T265A which has a total mileage of 4980km. This train will spend you about 54 hours 24 minute traveling from Guangzhou to Lhasa. For tourists who are the first time to et into the Tibet, the train will become the first choice. You can not only gradually deal with the discomfort of altitude sickness, but also can enjoy the fantastic scenery along the way. The identifications on the train are listed in the three languages of Chinese, Tibetan and English. Also, it is equipped with oxygen supply system and it is decorated with Tibetan style.

Notes for Taking Train in China

1. Booking an original train is easier than booking a passing-by train.Train ticket 20 days in advance at most. As Guangzhou - Lhasa train ticket is quite hot-sell,  TCT suggests travellers to book train ticket as early as you can, in case of the availability of the ticket. 2. Train sleepers are classified into two types: soft sleeper and hard sleeper. Hard sleeper has three sub-categories: upper hard sleeper, middle hard sleeper and lower hard sleeper; Soft sleeper has two sub-categories: upper soft sleeper and lower soft sleeper (better). If you take an over-night train or long distance train, you would better buy a ticket for soft sleeper to make your trip more comfortable.

3. In China, taking a train is a comparative cheaper way to cut down the travel cost. While correspondingly, the comfortable level is lower than by air.

Luggage: you need to take the luggages by yourself and keep an eye of them on transporting time, no luggage-checking service on the train
Carriage: it may be crowded when in the domestic travel seasons as well as summer holidays.

Best Time to Visit Guangzhou:
Spring or autumn is the best time to visit Guangzhou, particularly in Apr, May, Oct, and Nov. During these months, Guangzhou is neither cold nor hot with most find days without interruption of the typhoon. Travel to Tibet

Domestic Travel High Season:
The most crowded seasons in China are Chinese Spring Festival (usually in late Jan or early Feb.), International Labor Day (May 01 to 03) and National Day (Oct 01-07). Spring Festival and the National Day golden week are the most crowded time for travelling. Try not to travel in these periods, it is hard to buy train ticket and scenic spots are full of travelers.
