My husband and I just returned from a vacation to China. We visited Beijing, Xian, Guilin, Yangtze and Shanghai through Top China Travel (TCT). Yocky from TCT was our travel agent. She was excellent and prompt in answering our questions and help us tremendously in getting our visas. We were pleasantly surprised when she was there along with Lizzie our tour guide to greet us at Guilin airport. We really enjoyed her and Lizzie's company and their in depth knowledge of the city. All the hotels in each of the city we stayed were elegant and meals were delicious with a taste of local flavor. We can't say enough about Yocky and all the tour guides, Jennifer in Beijing, John in Xian, Lizzie in Guilin, & Chris in Shanghai. They were all top notch with their friendly attitudes, professionalism, attention to detail and their passion in the country's culture. We had a great time in China thanks to Top China Travel and their expert tour guides. I would highly recommend anyone interested in planning a vacation in China to use TCT as their agency of choice. Thanks to TCT for a most enjoyable and memorable vacation. AL

Lily from Top China Travel and her staff provided us an amazing 15 day visit to China last month, which featured Guilin and Yangshuo besides other major China destinations. Our hotels, guides, drivers and itineraries all more than met our expectations. We had lots of opportunities to add to or modify our itineraries, which we did. Whatever any changes were made, our guides and drivers helped us with transport and purchasing of entries. The hotels were superb, as were the meals. I highly recommend using Top China Travel to anyone wishing an excellent visit to China.

During the last week in April and the beginning of May 2017, my wife and I toured southwestern parts of China - Guilin, Yangshuo, Xian, Zhangjiajie and Shanghai- in 8 days, starting from Hong Kong. The online booking process with Top China Travel ("TCT") went smoothly with a very knowledgeable and responsive (via e-mails) TCT sales representative, named Janet ("Dan Dan") Chan. It was a private tour with English-speaking guides in private vehicles and via air travels between cities (thus, a bit pricey). The guides all spoke excellent English and drivers were very helpful and courteous. The hotels and China domestic flights, arranged by TCT, were generally very good to excellent. The scenery in Guilin/Yanshuo and Zhangjiajie were breathtaking, although these popular tour destinations were very crowded, as expected. The foods were not as impressive as we expected, sometimes hampered by the language barrier in local Chinese restaurants. All in all, we enjoyed our trip very much, and can recommend TCT to our friends. Steve H.

This area is very nice, they still rice farm these teraces in season.
This is about the 2.5 hour drive up into the mountains 1 way.
There a small Village there that you can have lunch and hike up into the village.
We had a nice soup and hot tea for lunch here in the Village area. Everyone working here lives here, your dollars will help them enjoy their life here in this special area. Locals had a village home open for viewing. If you are interested in the history, local culture and people this wooden architecture is nice. There's a path, small road to wander into the actual village on that's not a hard walk. There are also about 500 stairs on the other side, I did both the stairs are not good for anyone with challenges. No handrails. The homes in the village span up the hillside about 500 meters.If you have time I think this is a nice day in the area. Go during daylight, that man road us very winding. Suggest a local driver and or guide. I love Top China Travel, Rebecca is fantastic she will arrange everything you need in Hong Kong, China for you with no hassles and at great value. Here's an idea, best photos are on my other camera. Getting close to the history and residents is a huge part of real traveling.Show less

We chose TCT for an 11 day/10 night private guided tour trip through Beijing, Xi'an, Guilin, Yangshuo, and Shanghai. Janet helped us plan and finalize the itinerary for our trip via email and phone communication and was very accommodating and helpful during the entire process. She also kept in contact with us throughout the trip to make sure that everything went smoothly and to our satisfaction. For the city guides, we had Merry in Beijing, Christina in Xi'an, Ji in Guilin/Yangshuo, and Leo and Sara in Shanghai. Each of our guides were helpful and informative and made sure that our needs were met along the way, and all of them were flexible with any last-minute requests or issues that came up. Special mention also for our driver Mr. Ai in Beijing who always made sure that we had water and that we got to our destinations on time regardless of the traffic situation, and likewise with Ms. Luo in Shanghai. Our trip overall was very action-packed and we were able to see almost everything planned on our schedule including some last-minute inserted locations which was a plus. We had a great time visiting on our first trip to China, and would recommend TCT for anyone looking to looking to plan their own trip there.

From the minute I contacted Vicky at Top China Travel to book our holiday, to the time we were taken to Pudong airport for our flight home, the experience was perfect. My wife and I visited Beijing, Xian and Shanghai and all of our tour guides were fluent in English, very knowledgeable and very friendly. Thank you Vicky and all at TCT and I will definitely be in contact when I return to China.

Our tour: Beijing, Xi`an, Yangtze River Cruise and Shanghi When we first made our inquires, we thought we would be hooked up with a group but due to our dates, it turned out to be just my husband and I. It was one of the best tours we’ve been on and we travel the world. First, we were immediately notified of a hotel upgrade prior to leaving home due to a National Holiday they declared in China. Our first hotel was close to the center of Beijing and everything would be shut down due to the Military Parade scheduled. Upon arriving in Beijing at 4:30am, we learned from our “super” guide, Grace, that all tours would be shut down for that one day also. Not a problem. We ended up going to the Great Wall and the Summer Palace the day before the shut down. We had plenty of time at both locations plus a delightful lunch on the way to the Great Wall. The day after the shutdown, was to the Temple of Heaven, (actually a wonderful park with everyone doing everything from dancing to playing checkers) then on to Tian`anmen Square. Here the decorations were still up from the parade and it was starting to get crowded but we started early, the Forbidden City and the Rickshaw Hutong Tour. Lunch was part of the Rickshaw tour and was in a local Chinese home. Normally, these might be spread out over a couple of days but we had to compress due to the shutdown and didn’t feel we missed anything. Again, Grace and our driver were wonderful and she knew all the short cuts etc… Then they drove us to the high speed train. Grace arranged our tickets and even boarded the train with us to make sure we were in the right seats, Loved this girl!! We were met in Xi`an at the train station by _____and driven to the Ramada Bell Tower. First on the agenda was the Ancient City Wall. This wall is about 40 feet high and probably 15 feet across. It isYou popular to rent bikes and ride around it (lots of tandum bikes) or walking or jogging. The whole distance is about 6 miles around. (visible from Google Earth) Then on to Terracota Army Museum. This is about an hour drive out of the city. This is a large complex. I don’t know what I was expecting but I didn’t expect buildings other than the hugh one built over the warriors. Lunch was provided at a restaurant on site. Back to Xi`an and a quick stop at the Wild Goose Pagoda. Here you are given into the care of a Pogoda volunteer to take you thru the grounds. The next morning we had some time before our flight to Chongqing so ___ took us to the Shaanxi History Museum. This museum has some wonderful exhibits that are well worth the time. Our flight was met by the local guide and driver and they took us to the Victoria Llanna. I can’t tell you how fantastic it is to have these guides to move you around and look out for you. There is no way we would have known to hire a local porter to carry our luggage to the boat They put a suitcase on each end of a bamboo pole and carry it down probably 60 cement stairs to a 50 foot metal walkway on drums extending out to the boat. I had to hold on to the rail just to walk across to board the boat. No way I could have handled luggage. Our guide recommended the proper fee to the porter and fended him off when he wanted more. Registration is on board the boat. Our guide helped us with that and then off he went. On board, you are seated with a group of other travelers. We were called the Foreign Independent Travelers. We had couples from France, Israel and Australia at our table. The meals are oriental but it is easy to find something you like. Every meal was buffet except for the final night. Always breads, eggs, meat and various fruits for breakfast. Lunch and dinner had rice, chow mein, various meat and vegetable dishes and always watermelon. In the bar area, I found an ice cream bar that was my daily reward! The different Georges were beautiful. On one you stop and board smaller boats to go deeper into the Goddess stream. At about 11pm on the final night, you start through the locks of the three gorges dam. Two boats go through at a time. Take a nap so you can stay up for this transition. When we arrived in Yichang, another very competent guide came on board and collected us. Hired a local porter for us and up the hill we went to the car and driver. Then on to the Yichang Airport to catch our flight to Shanghi. Our guide walked us into the airport and made sure we had our boarding passes. In Shanghai we were again met and taken via the MagLev train to the Marriott Puxi Hotel. The MagLev operates out of the Pudong airport so if you want to ride on this, you need to arrive at the right airport. (our son said we had to do this so, there you go) Our day in a took us to the Jade Budda Temple, YuYuan Garden, Old Town, Oriental Pearl Tower (clear observation floor-like you are standing on air), Nanjing Road and the Bund. All doable in one day and at an easy pace. I’m not a shopper but did take my picture at the Apple Store to show I was there! Next morning we went to Watertown. This is a town with canals (think Venice) that is 1700 years old. Walked the streets and took a cruise on the wooden boat. Very peaceful amid the hustle and bustle of Shanghai. On to the Hongqiao Airport for a flight back to Beijing. (We were on Hawaiian Airlines so needed to go in and out of Beijing ) Our last day in Beijing we went to the Pearl Market to shop. This is where one goes to by knock offs. High end handbags, electronics, toys etc. (Flight crews go there to shop) This is not a souvenir shop. The next morning another guide and driver showed up to take us to the Beijing Airport. A guide and driver are the way to travel China and Top China Travel does it well. All guides were English speaking and paid attention to any requests we had

TCT, and our dedicated agent Maggie, performed A+ service in the planning & execution of our 21 day, door to door excursion of China, Tibet and Hong Kong. All drivers and guides excelled in there individual skills, knowledge and were personable. Absolutely no complaints from us and we consider ourselves to be very well traveled to the more exotic spots of the globe. The Gordons, Richmond Hill, ON CANADA.

I first visited China in 1975, the Canton Fair and have been a regular visitor since. In late 1976 partook in a 3 week Australia China Chamber Commerce of "approved" locations, one being that of Tianjin which was near epicenter Tangshan earthquake, staying in a Russian built colossal hotel, my how China has changed! On all previous trips I had business associates assist with my travel arrangements and this Guilin experience was the first I booked. Having never been to Guilin and always wanting to visit the karst formation mountains, I was surfing and an advertisement for TCT appeared to which I responded and immediately received a positive and informative reply from Lily. Informed her that I would be visiting a number of cities in China with my son on business and from our final city of Hangzhou I would like to visit Guilin and some attractions nearby. Lily immediately came up with a 5 day private tour proposal based on 3 star hotels and including private car transportation. The deal was so appealing I did not consider any alternatives. Arrangements were made solely by internet and whilst I was travelling. When I eventually nailed down the date I was to be in Hangzhou, Lily immediately booked a soft sleeper for the train to Guilin, some 18 hours and arranged for the ticket to be delivered to the Ramada in Hangzhou. In the course of the trip with my son in cities such as Taizhou, Handan, Chongqing, Tonglu and Hangzhou we mentioned my intended solo trip to Guilin and all were amazed that I, a Caucasian foreigner not able to speak Mandarin, would be capable of having a successful trip. Well at my hotel in Hangzhou there was the rail ticket as arranged, no problems to take the new Hangzhou subway to the East Hangzhou train station and on my way, sharing my soft sleeper with 3 Mandarin speaking fellow travelers The train arrived at Guilin station precisely on time, 12.18 and outside the terminal was met by my guide for the duration of my trip, the lovely and most capable 23 year old Yu Ming. She whisked me away to see the local sites of Reed Flute Cave, Elephant Trunk Hill, and Fubo Hill then to book into Universal Guilin Hotel 3*, top location. Yu Ming accompanied me to one of her favourite restaurants which offered live; snake, bamboo rats, various turtle and many fish. I settled on what is known as duck bill fish which is boneless but expensive, about RMBY220 per half kilo, other dishes as little as one tenth this cost. Following day joined hoards of other travelers on a flotilla of boats meandering some 83km downstream on Li Jiang (Jiang = River). The karst mountains are spectacular and the water clear and quite rapid, particularly in shallows. Considerable activity along the river conducted mainly from 12 pole bamboo rafts made of PVC pipe! Have a RMBY20 note with you and take a photograph of the scenery around Xing Ping which appears on the note. Met three fellow travellers,Guandong residents, who heard from Yu Ming we were to ride bicycles on arrival at Yangshuo and although none spoke any English they asked to accompany us when we ride hired bicycles to the Yulong River through the Yangshuo countryside. Off we set through relatively busy traffic but soon into serene countryside, easy riding. On reaching the Yulong we( Yu Ming and myself) hire a 10 bamboo pole raft (genuine bamboo), placed our bikes on the stern with poleman, sat in a pair of chairs and drifted down the Yulong (Dragon) River, going over weirs of more than 1 metre high, meandering through beautiful scenery and karst mountains to, too soon, to land at a banyan tree said to be 1,400 years old. Off loaded bikes and before setting on way to hotel, Ai Yuan 3*, bought from local vendor, a BBQ fish similar to a sardine, which you ate ,including backbone, from the skewer. Back on our bikes to have dinner at one of many local restaurants and then to the second performance for the night of Liu Sanjie, a love story familiar to all Chinese. A cast of over 700 from the Zhuang, Miao and yao minority in a setting of 1.4 hectares ( 3.5 acres) with karst mountains in background, backlit. Spectacular colours and lights, each performance holding 3000 spectators. To avoid queues for buses and taxis we rode a motorbike, 3 up, for total of RMBY10. During breakfast I could hear bursts of staccato which, was to see later, a funeral of a father. All mourners in white and the son and daughter of the deceased father were in long whites. The crackers were exploding and vast quantities of paper money floating everywhere to be quickly cleaned up by following street sweepers. Our driver, Qin caught up with us at 8 in the morning for an early start for the Longji rice terraces and the following day a visit to the Dong minority village, Yanzhai in the Sanjiang region (three rivers). More of that elsewhere My one regret, I did not have an additional day to enjoy the serenity of the Yulong River. I have had no further contact with tour organiser Lily, all is going like clockwork, Yu Ming not only a highly knowledgeable guide but is astutely aware of her charge's preferences, who is more than three times her age. I put this awareness down to the fact that Yu Ming is not only text book tourist taught by The Guilin University of Tourism, but she had recently spent some 8 months at the Epcot Centre in Florida.

Recently, we joint a group tour organized by TCT. We had a excellent experience for the whole tour including the booking process. Here are some highlights. Tour booking I found TCT from the web with very positive reviews. I decided to book my China tour with them. Now, I am glad that I made right choice. TCT assigned a very experienced tour consultant, Raylene He, to work with me. Due to various reasons, we changed our tour plan a few times including changing starting date, hotels, the tour routes etc. Raylene was very patient to work with me to make sure every planned details were met our needs. She was also very responsive in answer my queries. Our family would like to give her a big THANKS. Hotels Best Location: Beijing, Guilin Very convenient. This allowed us to do more sightseeing by walking in the evening. Hotel room: the best hotel rooms were in Xi’an. They were a very spacious full suites. It was a welcome surprise. Breakfast: most of us like Beijing better. I personally like both Beijing and Xi’an. This is because of the preference of the types of food. Tour guide Tour guide in Beijing stayed with us one day longer so we got to know her better. We felt that she provided very good service. Tour guide in Shanghai was more knowledgeable. He provided different perspectives to various topics. His explanation/opinion made the tour more interesting. In general, all tour guides were very professional and made their best effort to make the tour run smoothly. Because traffic jams are common in China, they constantly discussed routes with drivers to pick the best route and drop off locations. Drivers: Drivers were very cooperative. We had an emergency in Guilin. One of us needed to go to washroom right away. Since it was rush hour and the traffic was very heavy, the bus could not stop anywhere, the Guide and the Driver found a hospital with washroom on the way and dropped us off. We wee appreciate it very much. We also noticed that the drivers were very conscious in helping TCT to save money. For example selecting a parking location in a free of charge location instead of a paid parking lot. Flexible route arrangement We joined a group tour. This group tour went to Beijing, Xi’an, Shanghai, Guilin and Hong Kong as advertised. Our tour group started with four families. After the tour in Xi’an, One family left the group for Guilin and Yangtze River cruise. In Shanghai, the rest of us merged into another group. After Shanghai, a few families in the merged group left the group tour.. We left the group after Guilin. In general, the cost of group tour is lower. TCT allowed customer to pick and choice as you wish to fit customer’s needs. They also recommended group tour where possible to help customer to lower the cost, although this made their tour management a lot more complicated. I would like to say that TCT is an excellent tour operator compare with others. All the little efforts that employees made contributed to TCT’s success. It seems to us that TCT is a well run company. We wish TCT continued success in the future.

We were a bit nervous about using a company that none of our friends had used and therefore had no personal recommendation, but they were amazing. The hotels were great, what we saw was amazing and our private tour guide took us to the places we really wanted to visit. We had 2 days in Beijing and wished we had longer. There is so much history there and our guide, Jennifer, was so knowledgeable. She is a history graduate so knew her history. The Great Wall was as great as you can image it. Our guide took us to the Mutianyu area of the wall where there weren't too many tourists and if you walked a couple of miles or so you can get away from them so easily, especially early in the tourist season. I do wish we had a longer time on the wall but it was so much fun coming down from the wall on a toboggan slide! At Xi'an, where we had 2 days, our guide took us to meet one of the farmers who discovered the terra-cotta army and that made that visit even more special. Old Xi'an is also fascinating and worth walking around the wall or taking a bike ride on it. We didn't have as much time in Shanghai, so only really saw the Bund area. We went up the Shanghai World Financial Center but when we got to the top, It was in the clouds so couldn't see much, though when we went down a level the clouds had lifted and the view was amazing. We did do a night river cruise on the Huangpu river which was our favorite thing to do. Top China Travel really do know how to pack as much into your trip as possible. Our train or plane transfers were in the evening so we had the day to visit and our guides really did help us with everything we needed. Our drivers provided bottled water in their cars, and the driver in Chengdu even provided Wifi in his car. In Shanghai we ended up with 3 guides and our driver was a smoker and even though he didn't smoke while we were in his car, it really smelled of smoke, but that wasn't the case at the other places. Vicky was our tour consultant and we were able to meet her in Guilin which was so nice. She really did answer any questions we had and was able to upgrade us to a better room in Guilin as our first room was way too warm. Not only did she make sure that we had a great experience in her country but also helped us with getting our visas. We had an amazing experience and have recommended Top China Travel to our family and friends.
