Bayanbulak Scenic Area is located in the northwest of Hejing County, Bayinguoleng Mongolian Autonomous Prefecture of Xinjiang and in the hinterland of the southern foot of the central Tianshan Mountains. Bayanbulak Scenic Area is 288 kilometers from Hejing County and 360 kilometers from Korla and 500 kilometers from Urumqi. At the Bayanbulak Scenic Area, you can see wetland, hills, basin and grasslands. Here you can see the stunning sunset on the winding Kaidu River as well as the Bayanbulak Town, one of the most beautiful villages in China. In summer, the colorful flowers at the grasslands are blooming. And there are yurts and sheep flock on the lush and green grasslands.

Bayanbulak Grassland

Bayanbulak Grassland means fresh spring that never dry up in Mongolian. Bayanbulak Grassland is 363 kilometers away from Korla City, and consists of two high mountain basins and hilly grassland in mountainous areas. The grassland is 270 kilometers long from east to west and 136 kilometers wide from north to south, with a total area of 23,835 square kilometers. It is the second largest grassland in China after Erdos, Inner Mongolia. The mountains around Bayanbulak Grassland are all above 3,000 meters above sea level. It is a typical alpine meadow grassland.

Bayanbulak Grassland is lush with flocks of cattle and sheep, arched mountains and rivers. With vast terrain, various plants and excellent natural ecology, Bayanbulak Grassland has a vast territory, flat terrain, abundant aquatic plants and high-quality grass everywhere, feeding more than 600,000 cattle and sheep, and is one of the animal husbandry bases in Xinjiang.

Swan Lake Natural Reserve

Bayanbulak Grassland is less affected by human activities, which preserves many rare species in the world and becomes an ideal breeding habitat for wild animals such as swans. The landscape is basically in the original state, which is monopolistic and irreplaceable.

Kaidu River: Nine Curves and Eighteen Bends

Bayanbulak Grassland has 13 springs, 7 lakes and 20 rivers. Kaidu River, which meanders on the grassland, is known as the Nine Curves and Eighteen Bends because it is winding. In The Journey to the West, one of Four Great Classical Novels in China, Kaidu River also has a well-known name: Tongtian River. The famous Bayanbulak Swan Lake Reserve is located in the alpine basin in the upper reaches of the river, and the tail of the river is Bosten Lake, the largest inland freshwater lake in China.

Kaidu River is one of the largest rivers in Xinjiang, and it is also a famous inland river. With a total length of about 610 kilometers, Kaidu River has a total drop of 1,750 meters. Best Time to Visit Bayanbulak Scenic Area

The best time to visit Bayanbulak Scenic Area is September. Though the peak season of Xinjiang travel in June to August. Kindly reminder, the difference of temperature in Bayanbulak in summer is large in July, August and September. If you plan to stay overnight in Bayanbulak, please get prepared for the cold nights here.

September is also a good time to visit Kanas and Hemu Village. If you plan to visit Bayanbulak in September, you can take Kanas and Hemu into your consideration. Kanas is a golden world in autumn, when you can see the impressive Shenxian Bay and the autumn foliage of Kanas.
 

How to Get to Bayanbulak Scenic Area

To Hejing County: By bus or by train

There is bus from Urumqi to Hejing County. After 460 kilometers’ driving, you can arrive at Hejing County. And you will pass the Yiwu Highway and Duku Highway. Alongside your way, you can enjoy picturesque scenery of Xinjiang.

And you can also get to Hejing County by train from Turpan.
