Chamdo Bangda Airport or Qamdo Bamda Airport is a civilian airport known as "the world's farthest airport away from the city", "the airport with world's worst weather". It is located in at the narrow valley at the west bank of Yuqu River at the Banda Prairie in Chamdo Prefecture. The altitude of Chamdo Bangda Airport is over 4300 meters. With runway length of 5 kilometers, it is the longest civil airport runway in China and the world. The location of the airport has bad weather. The wind speed of winter often reaches 30 meters per second or more, the annual winter temperatures is often lower than -20 degrees Celsius. The air density above the airport is only 50% of that at the sea level. The successful navigation of the airport hit a human miracle in the history of civil aviation.

In 2005, there are 186 airplane taking off and land on Chamdo Bangda Airport. The same year, passenger throughput is 17,151 people and cargo throughput is18 6.3 t. The airport has played an important role in opening up of Tibet.

On October 16, 1994, Bangda Airport’s restoration project successfully passed the national acceptance, and the quality pass rate is 100%. It was rated excellent project.
