Thousand Miao Villages Xijiang(Chinese name: 西江千户苗寨), also named 'China's Miao stockade village of one thousand households’, is supposed to be the largest Miao Village in China. A continuous row of houses spreads in line of the hilly area. These houses are unique and grand under sunshine and verdant trees.
Researchers believe the village is the 'living fossil' to study Miao ethic minority's history and traditional culture. Senior Miao women wear their long dark hair coiled up in neat buns on the top of their heads while the younger Miao women prefer to adorn them with large colorful plastic or bone combs and pretty flowers. Each woman has her traditional clothing, head dress and other jeweler which is worn at special festivals throughout the year.
Xijiang Miao Village, located in the northeast at the foot of Leishan mountain in Leishan county, Guizhou Qiandongnan Miao and Dong Autonomous Prefecture, 36 km from the county and 35 km from the prefecture state Kaili, about 260 km from the provincial capital Guiyang. It was built up by more than 10 connected mountain village and is currently the biggest Miao village in China. In Xijiang, there is a famous silversmith village. Miao silver ornaments are all handmade, its craft has a very high level. Xijiang is a village of “original ecology” remains the intact culture, and is the palce to appreciate and understand China Miao long history and development.
Thousand Miao Villages Xijiang is located in Leishan County, Qiandongnan Prefecture, Guizhou Province. There are over 1,400 households with more than 6,000 people in the village, of which 99.5% of the original residents are Miao people, covering an area of 5.5 square kilometers. It is known as the largest Miao village in China and even in the world.

Museum of Miao Nationality is composed of six stilt houses with characteristic Miao style. There are 11 exhibition halls in the museum, which are the front hall, the history hall, the production hall, the festival hall, the songs and dance hall, the architectural hall, the silver ornament hall, the sports and Miao medicine hall, the religious hall, the living hall and the multi-media multi-function hall. There are more than 1,220 Miao cultural relics and more than 350 representative pictures, portraits and books in the museum, which show the uniqueness and diversity of Miao culture from Miao history, production, life, festivals, music, songs and dances, costumes, silver ornament, Miao medicine, architecture and religious beliefs. It is a good place to know about Miao culture.
The Changzhuoyan in Thousand Miao Villages Xijiang has a history of more than a thousand years. Taking High-speed train and Taxi
To get to Thousand Miao Villages Xijiang, you can take high-speed train to Kaili South Station(凯里南站), which takes about 40 minutes, then take taxi to the Thousand Miao Villages Xijiang Scenic Area, taking about 1 hour.
By bus
There is direct bus to Thousand Miao Villages Xijiang Scenic Area from Guiyang Airport Bus Station, which takes about 3 hours to get to Thousand Miao Villages Xijiang from Guiyang Airport. And please note that there are only 2 departures every day. And please check with the staff in the Guiyang Airport Bus Station in advance about the departures.
