Established in 1991, China Tea Museum is the only national museum in China that takes tea as its theme. China Tea Museum is situated at the idyllic Longjing Tea Village in the beautiful West Lake Scenic Area. The museum displays tea’s history, the various tea, tea events, tea sets and tea customs in China.

China Tea Museum is clustered around the tea plantations. In side the museum, the flower corridors, fake hills, ponds and water-side pavilions are well integrated. So they make it as the park in the south of the Changjiang River where has the clean atmosphere and can feel the closeness to nature. China Tea Museum, with the tea taste and fragrance, makes friends all over world.

In Chinese National Tea Musuem, visitors can get comprehensive information of the Chinese tea culture. The museum is comprised of four groups of buildings which display the history and development of tea in China. The tow main exhibition halls which named Tea Customs Hall and Kaleidoscope Hall will help people being a professor of Chinese tea immediately. In Tea Customs Hall, visitors can get close touch with the history of tea. It will tell the deep influence of Chinese tea in the minority groups, while there are more than three hundred kinds of tea in Kaleidoscope Hall.
 

Nestled in the lush hills of Hangzhou's Longjing tea-growing region, the China National Tea Museum (中国茶叶博物馆) stands as the world's first thematic museum dedicated entirely to tea culture. Opened in 1991 and expanded in 2015, this 4.7-hectare complex harmoniously blends exhibition spaces with traditional Jiangnan-style architecture and serene tea gardens, offering visitors an immersive experience into China's 5,000-year tea heritage.

Compsition of China National Tea Museum

The museum's design philosophy of "tea in scenery, scenery in tea" manifests through its six main exhibition halls connected by winding paths that meander past terraced tea fields and bamboo groves. Beyond displaying over 1,500 cultural relics ranging from Tang Dynasty tea utensils to imperial tea sets, the institution serves as a living archive where visitors can witness tea processing, participate in ceremonies, and taste premium Longjing (Dragon Well) tea - the jewel of Hangzhou's agricultural legacy.

China National Tea Museum is divided into two museums, China National Tea Museum Shuangfeng and China National Tea Museum Longjing.
 

China National Tea Museum Shuangfeng

Location: No. 88 Longjing Road, Xihu District, Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, China

China National Tea Museum Shuangfeng is located near the West Lake, which is surrounded by mountains and water. The China National Tea Museum Shuangfeng is a picturesque garden in Jiangnan(south of the Yangtze River) with greenery, tea gardens, bridges and pavilions. There are permanent exhibitions at China National Tea Museum Shuangfeng including Chinese Tea Culture Exhibition, West Lake Longjing Tea Exhibition and Exhibition of Donated Tea Ware.

Chinese Tea Culture Exhibition

At the Chinese Tea Culture Exhibition, you can learn about knowledge of Chinese tea and the development of tea culture. And there are samples of different kinds of tea leaves at the Chinese Tea Culture Exhibition, where you can know about the features of different tea leaves. At the Chinese Tea Culture Exhibition, you can know about the origin of tea trees, clarify the tea trees, tea processing, types of tea leaves, storage of tea leaves, benefits of tea leaves(tea colors, tea flavors and tastes of tea) and usage of tea leaves.
 

West Lake Longjing Tea Exhibition

Just like the West Lake in Hangzhou, West Lake Longjing tea is a representative of tea culture in the world. From the West Lake Longjing tea, we know about the harmonious coexistence between man and nature. In autumn(September-October), there will be less crowds in Hangzhou like July and August of the school summer vacations. And the temperature in autumn is cool and comfortable, suitable for exploring tea gardens in Hangzhou.
 

How to Get to China National Tea Museum

Bus: Take Route 27 from Yuewang Temple Station (near West Lake) to Shuangfeng Station (双峰站), then walk 500m south.

Metro: From downtown (e.g., Longxiangqiao Station), take Line 1 to Wulin Square, transfer to Bus 807.

Tourist Shuttle: West Lake Circular Line (Y10) stops at the museum's south gate every 30 minutes.
