How to Organize a Day Tour to Nanjing

Nanjing is the capital of Jiangsu province in Eastern China. Most of attractions in Nanjing are historic sites. One or two days in Nanjing is enough. Then how to organize a day tour in Nanjing to visit main attractions there? Here I would like to introduce a classic one-day tour route in Nanjing for your reference.

Best Route for Day Tour in Nanjing

Sun Yat-sen Mausoleum - the Presidential Palace - Xuan Wu Lake - Confucius Temple Nanjing 

Sun Yat-sen Mausoleum is a must visit place Nanjing. It is located inside Zhongshan scenic area in the eastern suburbs of Nanjing. It is near to Linggu Temple to the east and Ming Xiaoling Mausoleum to the west. Purple Mountain Observatory, Music platform. The building of entire complex was built by the mountain, gradually rising from south to north along the axis. Highlights in this place include main building has arch, tomb passages, tomb doors, stairs, pavilions and the tombs, etc. They are all built along the central axis.

After visiting Sun Yat-sen Mausoleum, you can walk up along Zhongshan East Road to reach the Palace Station, then you will see a Carrefour Supermarket. Behind the square of supermarket is the Presidential Palace. The presidential palace is located in No. 292 Yangtze River Road, Xuanwu District. It is the largest museum of modern history with a history of 160 years. The presidential palace is divided into three parts: east, central and western. The central part was mainly national government, the Presidential Palace and its affiliated organizations at the time; the west part was provisional president's office for Sun Yat-sen, the Secretariat and the West Garden, as well as the general staff. The Eastern part was Executive Hall, stables and East Garden. It can be reached by Metro Line 2 and Metro Line 3.

After that, you can visit Xinjiekou Shopping Street. Presidential Palace is very close to the Presidential Palace. You can shop there for a while and enjoy lunch.

In the after noon, you can head to Xuan Wu Lake, which is just sited at the foot of the Purple Mountain National Scenic Area. It is the largest imperial garden lake China. Xuanwu Lake is divided into 5 parts: Huan Zhou Islet, Ying Zhou Islet, Ling Zhou Islet, Liang Zhou Islet and Cui Zhou Islet, and they are connected with each other by dykes or bridges. It is recommended to spend 2 to 3 hours there to tour by walk, which should be interesting. The admission is free. Also, it is easy to be reached. One can take public bus or subway to get to the lake park.

After touring in Xuan Wu Lake, you can head to Confucius Temple. The Confucius temple is a set of large-scale ancient building complex. Confucius Temple is the origin place for Nanjing snacks. You can find all kinds of local snack to enjoy as your dinner. Confucius Temple is a great place for a stroll or nightlife. If you want to enjoy your nightlife, you can head to Nanjing 1912 Bar Street.


The recommended one-day tour route covers most of highlights in Nanjing. Nanjing is suitable for visit for all year around. Spring and autumn is the best time. Winter in Nanjing is a kind of cold.
