Malaysian Citizens Travel to China With and Without Visa

From 0: 00 Beijing time on December 1, 2023 to 24: 00 on November 30, 2024, Malaysian passport holders who come to China for business, sightseeing, visiting relatives and friends and transit for less than 15 days can enter the China without a visa. Malaysian citizens who do not meet the visa-free requirements and time limit(staying in China for more than 15 days) still need to apply for visas to China before entering China.

Where to Apply the China Visa in Malaysia

To get a China visa, you can go to the Chinese Visa Application Service Centre in Kuala Lumpur, Chinese Visa Application Service Centre in Penang or the Consulate General Of The People's Republic Of China to submit your visa application. You can choose a Chinese Visa Application Service Centre near you to apply your China visa.

If I want to stay in China more than 15 days, what should I do?

Intending to stay in China for more than 15 days or the purpose going to China not applicable to the 15-day visa free entry policy(business, sightseeing, visiting relatives and friends and transit for less than 15 days ), you should apply a China visa to enter China.


 

How to Apply China Visa in Malaysia

Clarify the Type of your Visa

To apply for a China visa, you should check the categories of your China visa. The types of China visa are different according to your purposes of going to China. So please be clear of your purpose to go to China and apply for the China visa accordingly. For example, if you want to go to China as a tourist and intend to stay in China more than 15 days, you should apply L Visa of China.
 

Documents Required to Apply for China Visa

  • Passport with at least 6 months’ validity and blank pages
  • Photocopy of the passport’s data page and the passport’s photo page if it is separate
  • Visa application form and photo(Please fill in the visa application form at the website of Chinese Visa Application Center in advance and print it out after signature)
  • Proof of legal stay or residence status (applicable to those not applying for the visa in their country of citizenship)
  • For those who intend to go to China as a tourist and stay in China more than 15 days, you should prepare the documents showing the itinerary including air ticket booking record (round trip) and proof of a hotel reservation, etc. or an invitation letter issued by a relevant entity or individual in China.

Submit the Chinese Visa Application to the Visa Center

After preparing the documents of the visa application, you can submit your Chinese visa application to the Visa Center in Malaysia. Please note that you should go to the Visa Center in person to submit your application and your fingerprints will be collected there. If you are not in Malaysia while submitting the China visa application, your application will be rejected. And it is recommended to submit your China visa application to the Visa Center located in the country of your current residency. Before submitting the China visa application to the Visa Center, you should make an appointment online at the website of the China Visa Application Service Center in advance.
 

Things to Do at the Visa Center

  • Present your Visa Appointment Confirmation Form or the screenshot of the appointment information, application form, original passport and other documents required.
  • Your on-site photo will be taken, and you will be given a queue number for submitting.
  • Submit your application at the counter after your number is called.
  • Sign and pay the visa fees and service fee.


 

When to Submit my China Visa Application

It is recommended to apply for your China visa about 30 days prior to your intended date of entering China, but not over 3 months. If applying for Chinese visa too early, your China visa might be expired before your arrival to China.

How to Understand the China Visa

Enter before: enter before means the entry validity, which refers to the valid time range of the visa holder. Generally speaking, the visa shall take effect from the date of issuance and expire at 24: 00 Beijing time on the day of expiration. If there are still unused entry times, the visa holder can enter China before the expiration of the validity period (including the day).
 

Entries: entries refers to the number of times that the visa holder can enter China within the validity period of his/her visa.
 

Please note that invalid visa refers to the visa that the visa holder has used up the entries or the visa holder has not used up the entries, but the visa has expired. If you want to go to China, you must apply for a new visa. The visa holder comes to China with an invalid visa will be refused to enter China.
 

Duration of stay: The duration of each stay on the visa refers to the time limit that the visa holder is allowed to stay in China each time, counting from the day after his entry to China.
