Jade
Jade holds a greater fascination for the Chinese than any other stone. Traditionally, it is worn for good luck, as a protection against sickness and as an amulet for travelers. There are several types of jade: nephrite, jadeite and a local variety, nanyu jade. Do not buy from open-air private markets, as there are plenty of imitations in the market. Buy from established shops such as the Jade Shop (12-14 Zhongshan Wulu), Baoli Yuqi Hang (220 Zhongshan Silu), Guangzhou Antique Shop (696 Wende Lu), and the jewelry shops of the China Garden and White Swan hotels.
