Reflection of
Yellow Cloth Shoal is the cream of the essence of
Li River located in
Xingping Scenic Area. When the boat passes by Yangdi and Mural Hill, the surface of the river is gradually open. The surface of the water is just like a huge mirror, reflecting the green hills, which is very amazing. The beauty of Li River is in the reflection, and the most beautiful reflection is the reflection of Yellow Cloth Shoal. There is a maize-yellow flagstone, long and wide, just like a yellow cloth spreads on the bottom of Li River, hence the name of Yellow Cloth Shoal.
There are 7 hills in at the bank of Yellow Cloth Shoal standing up from the water. They are so beautiful and quite just like 7 girls, so people called them 7 fairy maidens. It is said that once the 7 little fairy maidens came to play at the bank of Li River, they were amazed by the beautiful scenery here and did not want to return to the heaven palace. When the Emperor of Heaven knew, he ordered them to come back. The 7 fairy maidens did not want leave and changed themselves into hills to stay here.
The reflection has great connection with the weather:
In Rainy Days, the refection is broken by drops of rains. In fogy days, the reflection will be covered by the fog. In Sunny Days, the reflection is quite obvious. The best angle to see the reflection is when the boat sails at the turning of Mahuang Sandbar.
Besides the elegant verdant hills along both banks, the charm of Lijiang River owes a great deal to their inverted images on the water. Shortly passing Mural Hill, the boat arrives at Yellow Cloth Shall, the most ideal place for appreciating reflections. The water is not only expansive, crystal clear but also quite serene and smooth. “Peaks are floated on water with shadows inverted all the hills and waters enchant visitors”.
The background scenery of the new edition of 20 CNY is the Yuanbao Hill here in the Yellow Cloth Shoal. The two large painting in Chinese Embassy in the United Nations Headquarters, one is the Great Wall, and the other is the Reflection of Yellow Cloth Shoal.
