Since there are spots on the way that you may like to take some photos, the best way to make the trip to Toksun would be the chartered car. You are allowed to ask the driver for a stop when you met a satisfying scene for the photo.
►From Urumqi to Toksun, 190km & 3hrs driving.
If you would be only interested in flower photography, then you could finish the tour within one day.
►From Turpan to Toksun, 50km & 1hr driving.
If you would visit Turpan, then you could choose to take a 1-day photography tour to Toksun.
In Toksun, you could find a large scale of apricot forest in Nanhu, a small village where it is the main venue for the flowers. The people would steam in this village for its reputation, which cause the crowds and bad experience. Actually, there are apricot forests on the way to Toksun where the flowers blossom well, and the people are less, which could allow you to choose the right angle and leave you enough time.
Kindly notice, you would only shoot some photos with small scenes and close shots, such as the characters in the apricot flower forest. It is not suitable for the big scenes and distance view, since there is no the backgrounding of mountains or valley or grassland. It would be too simple with the flowers only in the image.

►Red River Valley is 20km away from Toksun. When you drive into the valley, you could see everything is red, the mountains, the riverbed, the sand, which makes it a magic world. The valley seems to be a red ribbon left by the creator, lying on the east side of the Yardang Landform Geopark, crossing the land from north to south.
Tips: Keep distance to the river bank for safety.
