Xiamen Transport

Xiamen is one of the top ten ports in China. It is avigable with more than 60 ports in more than 40 countries and regions. It is one of the major aviation hubs in East China. It has opened about 102 domestic and foreign air routes to Singapore, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand, Japan and other places. Also, Xiamen has a variety of modern communication facilities and has very convenient external traffic.

External Traffic
►Aviation
Xiamen Gaoqi International Airport is only 10 km from Xiamen city. It is the fourth largest departure and entry airport in China following Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou. It has flights to more than 40 domestic big and middle cities including Hong Kong and Macau; in addition, it has flights to Bangkok, Singapore, Manila, Osaka and other foreign cities.

►Railway
Xiamen Island has across-sea causeway connected with the mainland China, the rail can directly reach Xiamen city. At present, Xiamen has the originating passenger trains to Beijing, Shanghai, Nanjing, Hangzhou, Hefei, Nanchang, Xi'an, Chongqing and other places.

►Highway
Xiamen highway transportation extend in all directions. It has existing expressways Fuzhou-Xiamen, Xiamen-Shantou, Xiamen-Zhangzhou. The long-distance passenger cars can directly access to parts of the province, but also can north to Hunan, Hubei, Anhui, Zhejiang, south to Hong Kong and Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Zhuhai, Shantou in Guangdong and other places.

►Water Transport
Xiamen Port is a natural harbor in southern China. Here, ships with ten thousand tons can be unimpeded. There is passenger liner between Hong Kong and Xiamen from 17:00 every Wednesday from Xiamen bounding for Hong Kong. Also there is cargo liner direct flights between Xiamen and Kaohsiung in Taiwan.



City Traffic
►Bus
Buses developed very well in Xiamen. Xiamen now has more than 200 bus lines. The ferry port, Xiamen University and the train station are the main starting bus stations. Urban buses service hours are from 5:00 a.m. to 1 a.m.. Buses in Xiamen are mostly pay-to-the-driver buses and the fare ranges from 1-9 yuan. There are tour and sightseeing buses to take visitors to tour some of the tourist attractions in Xiamen.

►Taxi
Xiamen has a large amount of taxies which spread from the noisy commercial district to remote and quiet residential district. The starting price is 8 yuan (inside 3 km), and 2 yuan per kilometer beyond 3 km. From 3:00 a.m. to 5:00 a.m., an additional 20% needed to be paid. Generally in a place not far away from the bus shelters there is a taxi stop sign; also, at the door of the large shopping malls, stores or shopping centers , there is special taxi pick up area.

Pleasure Boat
Xiamen has special ferryboat between Xiamen and Gulangyu pier which is the main vehicle to the Gulangyu Island for tourists. The one-way charge is 8 yuan (the second floor needs extra 1 yuan) and it takes about 7 minutes. The first flight from Xiamen station is 05:45 a.m., from Gulangyu station is 05:30 a.m. or 06:00 a.m..
