Notes for Taking Train in China
1. Train ticket 20 days in advance at most. TCT suggests traveller to book train ticket as early as you can, in case of the availability of the ticket. 2. Generally, there are five kinds of ticket for seats and sleepers on ordinary trains in China: soft seat and hard seat, Hard sleepers (upper hard sleeper, middle hard sleeper and lower hard sleeper), soft sleeper (upper soft sleeper and lower soft sleeper).
3. In China, taking a train is a comparative cheaper way to cut down the travel cost. While correspondingly, the comfortable level is lower than by air.
Luggage: you need to take the luggage by yourself and keep an eye of them on transporting time, no luggage-checking service on the train.
Carriage: it may be crowded when in the domestic travel seasons as well as summer holidays.
Tips
Best Time to Visit Turpan:
The city of Turpan's climate is not as harsh as many people imagine it to be. The water supply primarily comes from underground, fed by the melting snows in the mountains. The best time to visit Turpan is Autumn when it has comfortable daytime temperatures and cool nights. Moreover, various fruits ripen and the air is sweet with the scent of fragrant fruits during this time of the year.
Best Time to Visit Kashgar:
The average rainfall here is only 121mm P.A; but the annual evaporation capacity amounts to 2162mm P.A; and on average there are 224 days a year without frost. The best time to travel is between August and September, when the sky is blue and there is blossom and fruit on the trees.
Try to Avoid domestic travel seasons
The most crowded seasons in China are Chinese Spring Festival (usually in late Jan or early Feb.), International Labour Day (May 01 to 03) and National Day (Oct 01-07). Spring Festival and the National Day golden week are the most crowded time for travelling.
