External Transport

 

100 km from Lhasa to Shannan, there is the only civilian airport in Lhasa – Gonggar International Airport. The only international flight is between Lhasa and Kathmandu. It opens domestic flight to Beijing, Chengdu, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Chongqing, Xian, Xining, Kunming, Diqing, Chamdo, Hong Kong, etc.. There are 40 flights every week. Gonggar Airport is located at Gonggar County, one of the 12 counties in Shannan Prefecture, hence the name.

 

You can take airport shuttle bus at the civil aviation ticketing center to the airport. The bus will drive 1 and a half hrs, and the fare is 35 to 40 yuan. At the exit of the airport, there is a junction of three roads, where you can wait the regular bus from Lhasa to Tsetang in Shannan. The price is 4 Yuan. If you travel with your friends, you can charter car from the airport to Tsetang. The four seats car will takes about 150 to 200 Yuan.

 

As Shannan do not have railway station, tourists could take train to Lhasa first and then take bus to Shannan. Comparing by air, by train is much cheaper; comparing with bus, train is safer. And as Tibet’s altitude is high, that take train could help you slowly get used to the highland environment. Now there are trains from Beijing, Chengdu, Xining, Shaghai, Chongqing, Lanzhou and Guangzhou to Lhasa. The hard seat is about 226 Yuan to 389 Yuan, and sleeper is from 810 Yuan to 1262 Yuan.

 

Shannan’s transportation is mainly by roads, and forming the road transport network taking Testang as the center. The road transportation is quite convenient. You can get Lhasa first and then take regular bus to Shannan. There are long-distance buses from Lhasa to Shannan’s Tsetang every day. It is about 160 km from Lhasa to Tsetang. The minibus charges 30 Yuan per person, and the luxury bus charges 40 Yuan. From Shannan Tsetang, there are many buses to each main attractions. It is convenient and the roads are in good condition.

 

Inner Transport

 

At several large counties such as Tsetang, Qushui, Gonggar, there are taxies. 10 Yuan can take you to everywhere of the county.

Tricycle

Except for taxies, there are tricycles, charges for 5 Yuan for starting fee.

 

There are No.1, 2, 3, 4, 5 Buses, charging 1 Yuan per person, mainly passing by schools or factories.
