China’s largest Dong village and Miao village are located at Qiandongnan Prefecture. There are hundreds of ethnic group festivals. Kaili, the capital of the Qiandongnan Prefecture, is also known as the hometown of hundred festivals. Qiandongnan Miao and Dong Autonomous Prefecture is situated at the transition section of Miaoling Mountains and Xiangui Hills. It bordered Hunan at east, Guangxi at south, with a total area of over 30300 square km. The highest altitude is 2179 m while the lowest is 137 m. The main rivers such as Liuyang River, Qingshui River and Duliu River are opened to traffic in all seasons. The climate in Kaili is changeable and wet. It is warm in winter and cool in summer. However, at some remote mountains, it is even cold at night in summer, and you’d better take jacket to prevent cold and rain.
 
Kaili City belongs to the subtropical humid monsoon climate. It has mild climate, pleasant seasons, with an average annual temperature around 16 . The coldest month – January’s average temperature is about 5 , and the average minimum temperature is also about 2 , and thus not too cold; the hottest month is July, and the average annual temperature is about 26 , the average maximum temperature is also around 30 , and thus is not too hot. Here is abundant rainfall, with average annual rainfall of 1,200 mm or more, 70% concentrated in the April to August. Average annual sunshine is 1289 hours, and frost-free period is 280 days.

Kaili belongs to the subtropical humid monsoon climate. It has mild climate, pleasant seasons, with an average annual temperature around 16 . In addition, half of the year is rain season of Kaili, and you need to take rain gear when you travel to Kaili. The best time to Kaili is in summer, when the climate is comfortable and there are many festivals and activities.
 
►Try to Avoid domestic travel seasons
Try to plan your Kaili tour to avoid the peak holidays. Because they are popular with Chinese tourists, Kaili attractions become more crowded in these periods.
 
The most crowded seasons in China are Chinese Spring Festival (usually in late Jan or early Feb.), International Labor Day (May 01 to 03) and National Day (Oct 01-07). Spring Festival and the National Day golden week are the most crowded time for travelling.
