The best time to travel in Hunan is in spring and autumn, especially from April to June.

Travel to Hunan in Spring

Spring in Hunan is moist and rainy, especially during March and April days, and the weather changes a lot in this season. Average temperature is likely to be 15 ºC-25 ºC.

• Suoxi Valley Nature Reserve: located in Zhangjiajie. It is a stream flows through the mountain gully and many high peaks in various forms on both sides of gully shrouded in drifting mist look like a group of nature sculptures.
• Shanjiang Miao Village: located in Fenghuang, here visitors can see Miao ethnic songs and dances, and be involved in their parties and activities.

Travel to Hunan in Summer

Summer is long and extremely hot in Hunan. Sometimes it may rain heavily, which usually causes floods. The average temperature is higher than 28ºC. Drifting or having boat tour on the lake can be an interesting journey.

• Dongting Lake: locate in Changsha, the second largest freshwater lake in China, is a flood-basin of the Yangtze River.
• Golden Whip Stream: located in the east of Zhangjiajie National Forest Park. It is famous for its pristine water, verdant mountains, steep cliffs and serene valley.

Hunan is very dry and cool in autumn. The average temperature seems to be 16 ºC-19℃. During this season, tourists are able to enjoy the beautiful red autumn leaves in Hunan.

• Yuelu Mountain Scenic Zone: located in Changsha; the elegance and enthusiastic red autumn leaves can be seen all over the mountains and plains.
• Southern Great Wall: sit in Fenghuang, one of the greatest ancient architectures in China with a reputation of "Thousands of Wall in Miao Area".

Travel to Hunan in Winter

In winter, it is a little cold in Hunan. The average temperature of the coldest month January may be 4 ºC-7℃. Tourists have a good opportunity to appreciate the fantastic snow-covered landscapes in Hunan.

• Mt. Hengshan: located in Changsha. Here you can see the snow scenes which can not be seen frequently in southern China.
