Yellow Mountain is one of China's ten best-known scenic spots. It is characterized by the four wonders, namely, odd-shaped pines, grotesque rock formation, seas of clouds and crystal-clear hot springs. It is celebrated for having all the features of mountain scenery.
Known as the No. 1 Mountain under heaven, it features numerous imposing peaks (77 exceed an altitude of 1,000m), forests of stone pillars and evergreen sturdy pines; other features include grotesquely-shaped rocks (many of which are individually named, such as 'pig-headed monk eating water melon'), waterfalls, pools and hot springs. Because of its mists and clouds, natural scenery in the area changes beyond prediction. It can be divided into Beihai Scenic Area, Xihai Scenic Area, Songgu Scenic Area, Yungu Scenic Area, Yuping Scenic Area, Baiyun Scenic Area and Hot Spring Scenic Area.
Xidi Village is known for its unique and elegant wooden houses: prettified walls preventing rain infiltration, black tiles recording the history of the town, decorative gate towers standing for the particular flavor of the architecture. Most of the 300 houses in the village were constructed in the Ming and Qing dynasties, of which 124 were well preserved, fully displaying the architectural style of Anhui Province.
Because of the old-aged style, carvings in Xidi Village are very traditional in Chinese style which may not be found in other place. Carvings of stones, bricks and wood are not sold for tourists. They are parts of this ancient village. Door frames, lattice walls, columns and beams in the halls, all of these corners are decorated by those carvings. People can find a past smell from them.
Tunxi Old Street has been the distribution center of south Anhui Province knowing for the production of green tea and ink. It is the witness of the flourish of Anhui merchant's for a period of time.
The street is 1.5 kilometers long and 7 meters wide. There are long lines of shops along two sides of the street. They are all made of brick and wood and have double floors in Ming-and-Qing-Dynasty style. Most of the buildings are only three stories high, stone-based and brick-laid. They are decorated with small green tiles, wood carvings in the Hui style, ancient shop signs, and red-lacquered with double eaves on the roofs. Here you can buy featured souvenirs such as traditional Chinese medicine, Qimen Black Tea, Anhui ink stick, Shexian ink stone and Anhui Four Carvings.
