How to Get to Hanging Temple from Datong

Hanging Temple is located 65 km southwest of Datong in Hunyuan County. It usually takes about one and a half hours by car from Datong. It is a temple built into a precipice (75 m above the earth) of Mt. Hengshan in Shanxi Province.

To get to Hanging Temple, one should get to Datong City first. Then there a couple of ways for you to reach the temple from Datong as follow.
 

By Bus

One can hop on a bus which leaves for Hunyuan County (浑源县)from the square of Datong Train Station. It costs about 22 yuan. Then change to a minibus or taxi there to get directly to Hanging Temple Scenic Area. It takes about 2 hours for the whole way.

Also, there is direct bus heading to Hanging Temple Scenic Area from Datong Bus Station. But not sure the schedule of the bus, you need to inquire the information in the station.
 

By Car Rental

For Hanging Temple is a little bit far from the downtown Datong, if you are not sure to find the bus station or worry about the language difficulty, it is highly to rent a car to get to the temple area. By Taxi

One can also get to Hanging Temple from Datong by taxi. But the cost is much higher than taking the bus. Not sure if the driver can speaking English. It takes about 1.5 hours to take you there.
