Since Jan. 1, 2012, the real-name train ticket policy has been applied in all the railway stations in China. The conduct of the policy is good for maintain the order of the railway transportation and ensure the public security.
 
And to get on the train, passengers should present both a valid ticket and their ID certificate.

The available ID certificates for get on the train:

 
-Chinese citizen ID card
-Passport
-Permit of Inland Entry and Exit for Hong Kong and Macau Residents
-Permit of Mainland land Entry and Exit for Taiwan Residents
-Home-return Permit
-Permit for Mainland Residents to Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan
-Residence Permit for Foreigners
-Aliens' Exit-Entry Permit
-Diplomat Certificate, etc
 
When buying ticket, it is only allowed to buy with ID certificates. The number of the ID certificates and the name of the passenger will be printed on the train ticket. And when you travel by train in China do not forget to bring your ID certificate.
