Historic Minority Houses in Jinxiu and Hot Spring in Xiangzhou

Post Time: Feb 09 2011 By Sophie Huang

Jinxiu, a small county in Liuzhou Guangxi, is a Yao minority county that all the locals are Yao ethnic. We entered into this special county on January 26th. The most expressive experience may be our local tour guide, a Yao ethnic lady who was hospitable and good at singing folk songs.

We paid a visit to the local dwelling with the ethnic architectural style. Yao architectures are totally different from the Han ethnic ones. Just like an oblong-shaped box. When entering into the gate, there is a square space to store some food which may be used during the coldest days. Go straight into the second room, there may be a living room without very complex decorations. This room is also shaped into square. Still go straight into another room which is the bedroom. They also have meals in this room. Continue our visiting, there is a back door may lead people into the bathroom and kitchen. So, all there square rooms consist of a big oblong house with high roof and long history.

When finishing our trip in Jinxiu County, another destination was waiting for us – Xiangzhou Hot Spring Resort. Xiangzhou is another small county in Laibin Guangxi. We accommodated in the Xiangzhou Silk Garden & Hot Spring Resort and planned to relax ourselves in this leisure place. It was a very unforgettable experience because of the cold weather and the warm hot spring. When we stay in the hot spring pool, we were joyful and excited to play with each other. While when we had to leave the pool, all of us became quite and words we only said were “so cold, so cold”.

It was an unforgettable trip. With a hard work for a half year, this relaxing experience just liked an extra prize for us. The unique minority culture, the leisure hot spring time and the dearest friends and workmates were the highlights of this 3-day trip in Guangxi Province.
