Xuding Historical and Cultural Street, located on the outskirts of Pengjiang District in Jiangmen city, is known as the "origin of Jiangmen city". It carries a rich historical and cultural heritage, letting people experience the centuries-old tradition of commerce and industry in Jiangmen, and witnessing the huge impact of overseas Chinese on the modern urban development of Jiangmen.

Why Is it Called Xuding Street?

Jiangmen was originally a small market town in Xinhui County. Because it guarded the confluence of the lower reaches of the Xijiang River and the Pengjiang River (also known as the Jiangmen River), it could reach Macau and Hong Kong by waterway to the south, backed by Wuyi and western Guangdong, and reach Wuzhou in Guangxi by going up the Xijiang River. With a vast hinterland and a superior geographical location, in the late Yuan and early Ming dynasties, the ancestors of Jiangmen opened up a market place on Mount Penglai, called "Jiangmen Market", and because the street market was at the highest point, it was named "Xuding Street".

Travel highlights of Xuding Street

1. Thirty-three Xu Street(三十三墟街)
Thirty-three Market Street, this name comes from the 33-step bluestone staircase at Shuiputou. This street was built in the Guangxu period of the Qing Dynasty. Going up the steps is Xuding Street, which can even be traced back to the Ming Dynasty, and has a history of more than 600 years. Xuding Street is lined with shops on both sides, witnessing the vicissitudes and prosperity of Jiangmen for hundreds of years, and is a symbol of the city's history and economic and cultural development. 2. Changdi Style Street(长堤风貌街)
The scope of Changdi Style Street is roughly from Jiangmen Iron Bridge to Pengjiang Bridge, with a total length of about 1.5 kilometers. This is the old commercial district of Jiangmen, and along the way is the most typical arcade style. These buildings, mostly built in the 1920s and 1930s, and most of them were invested and built by overseas Chinese at that time. These arcade buildings, both practical in Lingnan architectural style and beautiful in Western style, form a Chinese-Western style of Changdi arcade, with a unique Lingnan "overseas Chinese" flavor. You can stroll among them and enjoy the unique architectural style of Jiangmen.

3. Yuqing Lane(余庆里)
