Lee Kuan Yew's Ancestral Residence, Zhong Handi, is the ancestral home of former Prime Minister of Singapore Lee Kuan Yew, and is located in Tangxi Village, Gaopi Township, Dabu County, Meizhou City, Guangdong Province, China. It is a typical Hakka residence built in 1884 by Lee Kuan Yew's great-grandfather, Lee Muwen, who returned to his hometown after making a fortune in business in Singapore. It has a history of more than a hundred years. It is now under the care of Lee Kuan Yew's cousin, Lee Foon Sen's family.

Zhong Han Di sits northwest to southeast, covers an area of 230 square meters, building area of 180 square meters, for the brick and wood structure, triple courtyard layout, belongs to the "下山虎" style Hakka residential architecture. It has 8 rooms, separated by a patio between the foyer and the upper hall, with "Zhong Han Di" on the top of the main door, the two sides of the main door and the top of the mountain wall painted with characters and ink drawings, landscapes, flowers and birds and other colorful paintings, and the beams of the foyer have simple wood carvings. Its windows are all stone windows, all carved from granite.

In the middle hall is the Lee Kuan Yew family lineage map. According to the "《李氏族谱》" records, the ancestor of the Li family in Tangxi village was Li Chundu, the descendant of Li Huode in Nyantian Township, Shanghang, Fujian, who moved to Chengxiang (today's Meixian County) in Guangdong Province, and passed on to the 13th generation of Mr. Li Yanbai, who settled in Tangxi Village and passed on to 7 sons, 49 grandchildren and 120 great-grandchildren, and Lee Kuan Yew is the 9th generation of grandsons passed on to him by Mr. Li Yanbai.

Realistic Value

Lee Kuan Yew Ancestral Residence - Zhong Han Di is not only a historical witness of Lee Kuan Yew family, but also an important heritage of Hakka houses and humanistic history of Dabu. It is of value to the study of Hakka folklore, architecture, culture and economy. It was listed as a cultural relics protection unit of Dabu County in April 2005, a cultural relics protection unit of Meizhou Municipality in January 2014, a national AAA-level tourist attraction in October 2015, and a "Fourteen Famous People's Former (Old and Ancestral) Residences in Meizhou" in October 2021, and it is also an important witness to the history of the Hakka House and its humanistic history.

Lee Kuan Yew Ancestral Residence - Zhong Han Di has been opened as a tourist attraction, including Lee Kuan Yew Memorial Hall, Zhong Han Di and other major attractions. The Lee Kuan Yew Memorial Hall introduces the life of Lee Kuan Yew and the history of Singapore in the form of illustrations, videos and wax figures. Inside the hall, there is a bronze statue of Deng Xiaoping and Lee Kuan Yew shaking hands, which recreates the scene of Deng Xiaoping's first visit to Singapore in 1978. In the main hall of Zhong Han Di, there is a statue of Mr. Lee Kuan Yew's great-grandfather, and inside, there are a large number of illustrations and materials about Lee Kuan Yew and his family's deeds. Every year, many tourists from Singapore and other parts of the world visit this place to experience the Hakka flavor and the story of the Lee Kuan Yew family.
