Rain Flower Terrace is located in Nanjing, near the Zhonghua Gate. The History of Rain Flower Terrace

Rain Flower Terrace has a history of more than 3,000 years. Ever since 472 B.C, the Rain Flower Terrace has been a place of having a panoramic view of Jiangnan. In the Southern Dynasties, a monk of great repute of Buddhism gave lectures at the Rain Flower Terrace, which moved the god, and the falling flowers was like the falling rain at that time, hence the name. After 1927, the Rain Flower Terrace became the execution ground for the Nationalist Party rulers to slaughter communists and revolutionaries. After the founding of New China, the people's governments of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and China decided to build a martyrs cemetery here.

To memorize the heroes, the Rain Flower Terrace Martyrs Cemetery was built in the Rain Flower Terrace. It is largest commemoratory martyrs cemetery in New China. From 1927-1949, more than 100,000 persons including communists, workers, farmers, intellectuals and patriots sacrificed here. The Rain Flower Terrace witnessed the history of China before the founding of New China.
 

From 1970s to 1990s, large quantity of commemoratory architectural complex were built in Rain Flower Terrace, which include statues, monument. Bridge, memorial hall and pavilions. It is a representative commemoratory architectural complex in China, which is of high ornamental value. Here tourist can learn the history of China, experience the spirits of the national heroes and feel the history.

Rain Flower Terrace and Zhongshan Mountain Scenic Area are the two best places to enjoy the plum blossoms in Nanjing.
