Qixia Mountain is located in the Qixia District, Nanjing, Jiangsu Province. It was named She Mountain in the ancient time. And it got the name of Qixia Mountain is because the foundation of Qixia Temple. With more than 80 historical sites, Qixia Mountain is a collection of religious culture, imperial culture, green culture, folk culture, geological culture, stone carving culture and tea culture. With the Dragon Mountain to the northeast, Tiger Mountain to the northwest and Yangtze River to the north, there are three peaks on the Qixia Mountain. And the highest peak is 286 meters high. Qixia Mountain is one of the Four Beautiful Places to Visit Maple Leaves in China. There is a saying in Nanjing that we should visit the Niushou Mountain in spring and visit the Qixia Mountain in autumn. The maples in Qixia Mountain attracts thousands of tourists to visit it every year.

 

The History of Qixia Mountain

Qixia Mountain has been a Buddhist resort since the Southern Dynasties, and Qixia Temple is the first of all temples. Many emperors and kings had been to Qixia Mountain. Among them, Emperor Qianlong went to Jiangnan(the south of the Yangtze River) for six times and stayed in Qixia Mountain for 5 times. In the Ming Dynasty, a painter called Zhang Hong painted a painting entitled Qixia Mountain, vividly describing the spectacular scenery of Qixia Mountain. The painting is in the Taipei Palace Museum now. In 1958, Qixia Mountain was open to the public. In 1988, the trees of red leaves were added on the Qixia Mountain. And the forest of red leaves trees were finished in 1990.

 

Qixia Temple

Built in 484, Qixia Temple has a history of more than 1,500 years. It is on the west on the Qixia Mountain. It is one of the Four Famous Temples in China. It was the Buddhist center in the Southern and Northern Dynasties(420-589). The China Institute of the Buddhist Studies Qixia Mountain Branch was set up in 1983 Qixia Temple.

You can visit the Qixia Temple to burn incense and worship. You can feel the Buddhist culture here. And tourists can clang the bell to worship in the Qixia Temple. Clanging the bell to pray for blessings during the Spring Festival is a custom in the Qixia Temple of the citizens of Nanjing and tourists. In the Qixia Temple, you can listen to the lessons of the monks there.

You can visit the Qianfoyan and Stupa to experience the Buddhist culture by the exquisite and spectacular statues of Buddhas. At the site where the First Emperor of the Qin Dynasty used to stop and have a panoramic view of the Yangtze River, you can stop to visit the spectacular view of Yangtze River and imagine the thought of the Emperor. To enjoy the stunning view of the Yangtze River, Biyun Pavilion is also a good place on the top of Tiger Mountain. Standing on the Biyun Pavilion, Yangtze River is to your north.
