It has long been a crossroads for many different kinds of people. Their diversity of scripts and cultures is exhibited in this museum through archaeological material, including documents in some twelve different scripts with a particularly large number from the Han-dynasty finds at Turpan.

Southern Pasture: Traveling through this narrow verdant gully is a unique experience for natural scenery lovers. The Kazakhs usually spend summer here between May and October and graze their herds. Visitors can take a horseback tour guided by local Kazakhs. It stretches over a vast natural area with fascinating scenery. The elevation around the Southern Pasture is about 1, 600 meters on average. It is cool in summer and could be the nearest summer resort of Urumqi.
Autumn is the best time to visit Urumqi. As the weather cools, the city is shrouded by colours and scent of ripe fruits. Urumqi's temperature in autumn changes from 11.0℃ to 22.4℃.

Tianchi Lake: As a natural alpine lake, it has an elevation of 1,980 meters. In the shape of a half moon, the lake is 3,400 meters long, about 1,500 meters wide, and 105 meters at the deepest point. With limpid water, the lake shines like a sapphire under the sun and is surrounded by green mountains. At the southeast end of the lake is the magnificent Bogda Peak, meaning "Sacred Mountain" in the Mongolian language.

It is a best time to visit Urumqi's snow scene.
