How to Get to Xitang Water Town from Suzhou

Where is Xitang Water Town

Xitang Water Town is located in Jiashan, Jianxing, Zhejiang province. It is inside the triangle formed by Suzhou, Shanghai and Jiaxing, in the northeast of Jiaxing, about 33 kilometers away from Jiaxing, in the southeast of Suzhou and about 66 kilometers away from Suzhou,  and in the southwest of Shanghai and about 80 kilometers away from Shanghai City.

Xitang Water Town  is one of the six most famous water towns in Jiangnan, and also an ancient town with over one thousand years, and home to Wuyue culture. In the town, 9 rivers converge and divide it into 8 sections, which are almost linked together by bridges. Inside the town, many architectural groups built during the Ming and Qing dynasties  have been well-preserved, marking by its corridor with a length of 2,000 meters.
 

How to Get to Xitang Water Town from Suzhou

Xitang Water Town is only 66 kilometers away from Suzhou, and easy access to Xitang Water Town could be made due to convenient transportation this region. Here are some options for tourists to pick.

Option 1: by Bus or Coach

Long distance bus from Suzhou to Xitang starts from two bus stations in Suzhou, Suzhou Nanmen Bus Station(苏州汽车南站、苏州南门汽车客运站) and Suzhou North Square Bus Station(苏州北广场站).  Suzhou Nanmen Bus Station is located in No. 601, Nanhuan east road, and public buses like No. 931, No. 3, No, 949, No. 218, No. 261, No.4, No. 16, etc., pass through this bus station. Suzhou North Square Bus Station is located in No. 1455, Suzhan road, close to Suzhou Railway Station.  Many public buses pass through this bus station, like No. 529, No. 522, No. 166, No. 81, No. 79, No. 44, No.44, etc.

First take a public bus to the bus station, then buy yourself a ticket to Xitang Bus Station. After getting off at Xitang Bus Station, you walk about 50 meters to take K 535 public bus, get off at Yinchuan road(银川路) bus stop, then walk about 200 meters to Xitang Water Town scenic spot. Or you walk about 10 meters to take K323 pubic bus, get off at Mamingyang bridge bus stop(马鸣漾桥), then walk about 600 meters.

Option 2: by Train

Xitang Water Town  is in Xitang town, thus there is not railway station in the town, but there are two railway stations in Jiashan county, Jiashan Railway Station(嘉善火车站), and Jiashan South Railway Station (嘉善南站). For trains travelling to Jiashan, they usually starts from two railway stations in Suzhou, Suzhou Railway Station(苏州火车站) and Suzhou North Railway Station(苏州北站). Suzhou Railway Station is located in No. 27, Suzhan road, and over 50 pubic buses pass through this railway station, like No. 91, No. 6, No.7, No. 69, No. 8, No. 522, etc. Suzhou North Railway Station is located in Chengtong road, Xiangcheng district, and public buses like No. 871, No.877, No. 811, No. 819, No. 866, No. 813, etc. pass through this railway station. Metro Line 2 goes through this two railway stations, and metro Line 4 goes through Suzhou Railway Station.  From Suzhou to Jiashan, 8 trains are available every day, which are divided into three types,  fast train(K), high speed bullet train(D), and high speed train(G). Fast trains stop at Jiashan Railway Station, and high speed bullet trains and high speed trains stop at Jiashan South Railway Station. The latter two types of train are highly recommended to you, which are fast and not expensive.

First get to  a railway station in Suzhou, then take a train to Jiashan, and get off at Jiashan South Railway Station. After getting out of Jiashan South Railway Station, you could take K222 pubic bus to Xitang Water Town scenic spot, which takes about 50 minutes and costs 2 yuan, or take a sightseeing bus which takes about 40 minutes and costs about 8 yuan. Moreover, you could take a taxi to the scenic spot, which takes about 30 minutes and costs about 70 yuan in a distance of 21 kilometers.

Option 3: Car Rental

If you want to have a comfortable and private journey, you could rent a car  from a travel agency to take you from Suzhou to Xitang Water Town. Car rental is much more expensive than bus transportation and train transportation. But if you are in a group 4 or a group of 7, car rental would be a bit more reasonable in price.
