Accommodations at Mount Everest Base Camp

If you are planning a tour to Everest Base Camp, you may be very interested in a question, that is, where to stay at Everest Base Camp.

There is a real "base camp" at the height of 5150m of mount Everest which you need to provide all the permits, support etc. to stay in it. If you are a regular tourist, you can't stay in the real base camp. Then what's the closest hotel to EBC and where can you lodge around EBC?

In fact, there are hardly any "real" hotels near the EBC. Accommodations around Everest Base Camp are very simple. The hotels are in the remote far from the big cities so they cannot offer the luxury rooms. But stay at these hotels to enjoy the charming sunrise of Mt. Everest, you will forget all the troubles of poor accommodations here.

Here are some suggestions of the accommodations around Mount Everest for your reference. One is the Rombuk Monastery guesthouse, the other one is tent hostels.

Rongbuk Monastery Guesthouse

Rongbuk monastery is just 6 Kilometers away from EBC, lies near the base of the north side of Mount Everest at 5,100 meters above sea level. The Rongbuk Everest Hotel is the highest hotel in the world located 50 m north of Rongbuk Monastery. The Hotel runs from April to late October every year. Staying here is quite challenging but exciting, you can see Mt. Everest through a valley between mountains.

Staying in Tingri County

Tingri locates at an altitude of about 4,300 meters (14,107 feet), around 107 km north-west of Mount Everest. It is often used as a base by mountain climbers or trekkers. Why?

First of all, to visit the Everest Base Camp, visitors have to buy tickets in Tingri. Secondly, the lower altitude of Tingri will make travelers more comfortable and warmer, the risk of altitude sickness can be lessened a lot. In addition, the facilities of hotels in Tingri may be better than other places near to Mount Everest. More importantly, it just takes some time to drive to EBC, the scenery along the road can also give you surprise.

There are two recommended hotels. Tibet Tingri Everest Hotel and Tingri Everest Shanghai Hotel. Both two hotels provide good supporting facilities.
