With a history of over 2,000 years, Kashgar Old Town is situated in the center of Kashgar city. Covered an area of 4.25 square kilometers, this old town has a population of 126,800, all of whom are Muslims. Kashgar Old Town is therefore the only town with Islamic character and in maze-design. People in there still scrupulously abide by the traditional custom and the old houses.
This old town was once the important transfer hub that connected the northern and southern branches of the Silk Road, close to the western edge of the Taklamakan Desert. Traders and merchants from Asia and Europe, would have a stopover, uppack their goods and sell them along the city's cramped streets. Thus influenced both by Eastern and Western cultures, the architecture of the old town shows the charm of Central and Western Asia as well as ancient Roman.
Located in the central area of Kashgar city, Id Kah Mosque is the largest mosque in China, which covers an area of more than 1,680,000 square meters. The mosque was built by in 1442, during the Ming Dynasty.After several renovations, it reached the scale and today.
The whole construction mainly consists of 6 parts, namely the Front Gate, Main Hall, Outer Hall, Scripture Hall, Courtyard and Minaret It plays an important role in Chinese architectural culture.
Each Fridays at midday, around 10,000 people will gather here to pray and study the Koran, while on other days, the devour believers will prayer 5 times per day. Every believer and tourist who wanna visit the mosque will be asked to remove their shoes before entering the Main Hall.
Many old Urughur style buildings also stand around the Id Kah Mosque. When people stroll around in these streets, all kinds of local handicrafts can be found the professions are coppersmiths, blacksmiths, carpenters, jewelers and cobblers, also you can find a street of hand made embroidered cap and wool made carpets, all kinds of local foods, fruits etc…
With an altitude of 3,600m, Karakul Lake is a typical moraine lake and the highest lake of the Pamir Plateau, which located about 191km away from Kashgar, on the foot of grand Muztaga Peak.
In local language, Karakul means "black lake" as when the sun is hidden by clouds, the water in this lake indeed looks black. The lake has 2 basins separated by a peninsula from the south and an island in the north.

Bazaar is a Uygur character means a fair or market. You can find a Bazzar everywhere in Xinjiang, especially in Uygur-habitations of southern Xinjiang. As an important trading center of ancient Silk Road, Kashgar’s Bazaar is undoubtedly one of the most fascinating bazaars of the world. Every Bazaar-day (once a week), besides local folks, people from nearby areas would gather here. Thousands of people, local Uyghurs, Pakistani traders and nomadic Kazakhs are crowd into the narrow ancient streets, to sell their goods. People visit the market perhaps twice a year to sell their goods - mostly are garden produce.
