    New Rice Tasting Festival

    Place: Leishan
    Date: The mid of the sixth lunar month
    Activities: A festival to celebrate the harvest with many activities such as a brief in ancestors worship, enjoy a nice meal of new rice with fish and meat, bullfighting, bird fighting, Lusheng dance and singing.

  • Siyueba Festival

    Siyueba Festival

    Ethnic group: Miao, Buyi, Dong, Yao, Zhuang, Yi, Tujia and Gelao
    Place: Huangping
    Date: The 8th day of April on Chinese lunar calendar
    Activities: Miao people in their best costumes sing and dance to the melodies from the Lusheng and the bamboo flutes to celebrate their own traditional festival. Some young minority people take this advantage of the chance to make friends and choose their future spouses through their dancing and singing with deep love.

  • Lusheng Festival

    Lusheng Festival

    Ethnic Group: Miao
    Place: Zhouxi
    Date: The 18th-20th day of the first month on Chinese lunar calendar
    Activities: Mothers bring their daughter's finery that consists of embroidered costume and silver jewelry. The men and boys of each village play the Lusheng pipes while forming a circle and the girls follow with a relatively simple dance step to show off their costumes to best.
     

  • Dragon Lantern Festival

    Dragon Lantern Festival

    Ethnic group: Miao
    Place: Taijiang District
    Date: The 15th day of the first month on Chinese lunar calendar
    Activities: From the period of the 1st to 15th of the first lunar month, several groups in Taijiang make large paper dragons that are manipulated by 10 to 15 men. On the 15th night they weave through the streets stopping at different households. Each householder gives them money and liquor to ensure good luck for the family during the coming year.

    Place: Shidong
    Date: The 15th to 17th day of the third month on Chinese lunar calendar
    Activities: In the festival, there are centuries-old songs and dances, the dragon dance and bull fighting activities to entertain the older ones. As the moon rises, young lovers wander off. The mountain paths echo with the sounds of tinkling footsteps and clear melodious voices singing gentle love songs to the tunes of Lusheng pipes and love is in the air! It is "the oldest oriental Valentine's Day".   

  • Tiaohua Festival

    Tiaohua Festival

    Ethnic group: Miao
    Place: Suoga Township, Luzhi District
    Date: The 10th day of the first month on Chinese lunar calendar
    Activities: All wear splendid traditional attire for the occasion, and both men and women play the reed instruments, the Lusheng, the Suona horn and beat copper drums and sing and dance traditional songs and dances. Girls in love accept the flower umbrellas of the boys. The festival atmosphere is filled with sincere friendship and pure love.
