Chinese Pingshu combining with Peking Opera
( Post Time:May 14,2012 )
The two unique Chinese traditional performances Chinese Pingshu and Peking Opera will be combined and performed in a brand-new way in Beijing
The show hit the Meilanfang Grand Theater in Beijing. Pingshu, the traditional art of storytelling, is joining classic performances, to provide a different sense of artistic appreciation.
The story of "Red Cliff" is presented by renowned performers of both Pingshu and Peking Opera. Classic extractions of the historic epic in the time of "Three Kingdoms" have been re-interpreted through the new design. This is the first time the two traditional art forms are being put together into a single show.
Pingshu enchants audiences through intriguing storytelling and the following Peking Opera performances offer a feast for the eye. Pingshu Performer Lian Liru explains the reason for the combination.
Lian Liru says, "We have concerns that many young people seldom watch Peking Opera. So we have combined Pingshu into the show, so that through the storytelling, young audiences can understand more about plots and the play."
It’s a daring endeavour to innovate traditions.
