My family’s trip to Wuzhou

( Post Time:August 13,2010 By Janet Chan)

That’ s our first time to bring my parents together, drive our own car to a totally new city for us. The feeling of self drive trip is so good!

My parents brought a little box of snack to enjoy it on the way to Wuzhou. Although the sunshine is strong outside but it’s cool inside in our small car! Through 4 hours driving, we arrived Wuzhou.

Wuzhou is located in eastern Guangxi bordering Guangdong province. It is at the confluence of the Gui River and the Xun River where they form the Xi River; 85% of all water in Guangxi flows through Wuzhou.

Wuzhou is a city which quite easy to suffer the flood annually. So Terrace Building is one of the main characters in this city. See? There is a iron ring in each separate apartment, it is used to fasten the boat when it flooding.

Wuzhou has lots of delicious cuisine. As it located close to Canton, so most of the food there are full of Cantonese cuisine’s character, Cantonese people like sweet food, as well as Wuzhou people. They have Tofu pudding, Tortoise, Soya bean milk, Herb Jelly & Put chai ko and etc. Oh, I forgot one important dish, that’s paper bag chicken! Look! I want to drive back to Wuzhou now!

When you arrive Wuzhou, Longmu Temple is a must-visit place. Longmu Temple was first constructed during the early Northern Song Dynasty, and rebuilt in Ming and Qing dynasties. It was made up of the gate, front hall, rear hall, the corridor rooms and pavilions. The front gate was gallant while the rear hall was decorated with various paintings and carvings. After the rebuilt in 1960s, the temple covers an area of about 5000 square meters. The main architectures are the Memorial Archway, the Main Hall, the Rear Hall, the Imperial Palace, and Tortoise Pool.

The day we climbed the mountain to visit Longmu Temple is quite hot. I really cannot understand why my husband and parents insisted to go on the top of mountain to see a normal sculpture. But 3 people want to go I have to follow. We took a sweet family picture when we went down from the top of mountain.

Before went back to Guilin, I took several pictures from the window of hotel we stayed. I would keep them until 10 yrs later, I would choose the same room and take the same picture from the same corner, I would like to see if there is any changes in the two pictures, before and 10 yrs later! It’s sounds a good idea, right?

Where we go is not important, stay with parents, bring them happy, make them ease, that’s what we should do. Parents are getting old, they like to stay more time with their children, and not just see them working working and working.

I would accompany with my parents to travel Beijing in Oct. I am expecting that moment from now.
