Theses unique Chinese architectures are mostly found in the mountainous areas of southwestern Fujian Province, Its special design, defense system and history has attracted world attention. Besides Tulou, this tour includes the beautiful coastal scenery of Xiamen City.
Day 01 Arrival Xiamen (No meals)
Arrive in Xiamen, the beautiful costal city in South-east China. You will be greeted by your tour guide and transferred to hotel.
Xiamen is a beautiful tourist city. Thanks to its picturesque scenery and abundant foods, it is home to a large number of egrets, hence the name ¡®Egret Island'. Located in the southeastern coastal area of China, Xiamen is linked with Zhangzhou, presenting the landscape of the Golden Triangle in South Fujian, and faces Jinmen across the sea. The city has a sub-tropical maritime climate, and it is like spring all the year around. With various kinds of beautiful flowers, a great number of egrets flying leisurely and carefree, Xiamen id an ideal holiday resort, a paradise for tourists.
Day 02 Xiamen (B/L)
The entire day has been set for visit Gulang Islet leisurely and South Putuo Temple, Xiamen University as well as Hulishan Fort after lunch.
Gulang Islet covers an area of 1.87 square kilometers. Sunlight Rock, the highest peak on the islet, is the symbol of Xiamen. Because the holes in the southwestern reefs hit by the waves will make sounds like beating the drum, hence the name. On the islet, tourists can find the winding coastal lines, natural and gentle seaside bathing grounds with the fine sands, and oddly shaped reefs. The whole islet offers a clean, tidy and tranquil environment. Besides, many building on the islet showing both the Chinese and foreign architectural styles have been well preserved. Hence Gulang Islet is known as the gallery of International architecture.
The residence on the islet love music very much. With a small population of 10,000 or so, Xiamen has over 600 pianos, ranking first in China in the density of pianos. Hence it is called the land of music and island of pianos. Walking on the street, visitors can hear the melody of pianos everywhere. The winding and zigzag paths are another major characteristic of Gulang Islet. All the paths on the islet are linked with each other, with the delightful serenity of seclusion. To protect tourism resources on the islet, motor driven vehicles are forbidden to run on the streets, except for a small number of sightseeing storage battery cars for carrying tourists. Therefore the islet is quiet without the noise of traffic, making tourist have fun to stroll on the streets. When all the neon lamps are lit in the evening, the whole islet is elegantly decorated, presenting beautiful scenes different from the daytime.
Day 03 Xiamen -- Nanjing - - Zhangzhou(B/L/D)
Drive from Xiamen City to Nanjing to visit the famous Tuluoin Snail Pit as well as Huaiyuan Building and Hegui Building- the representatives of the round building and square building in the area. Stay overnight in Zhangzhou- the city with better accommodation facilities than Nanjing Tulou area.
Tulou, the earth building, is a unique and mysterious Hakka architecture with a thick earth wall enclosure found only in the mountainous areas in southwestern Fujian province bordering Guangdong in Southern China. Tulou is usually an enclosed buildings, mostly square or circular in configuration, with a very thick earth wall which is up to 6 feet thick and wooden skeletons, from three to five stories high, housing up to 80 families. These earth buildings have only one entrance, guarded by 4-5 inch thick wooden doors reinforced with an outer shell of iron plate. The top level of these earth building have gun holes for defence against bandits. What is amazing about these earth buildings is the fact that in spite of the earth wall, some of them are more than 700 years old, surviving through centuries of natural elements, including earth quakes, yet still standing solid.
Day 04 Zhangzhou- -Hua'an-- Xiamen(B/L/D)
Drive from Zhangzhou City to Hua'an to visit the famous Eryi Tuluo in Dadi Village, Huaan County. It was built in 1770, the King of Tulou. Be transferred back to Xiamen after the visit.
Eryi Tulou, built in 1770, is called the King of the preserved 1,000 Tulou. With a plane diameter of 73.4 metres, Eryilou houses 192 rooms in 12 units on its four floors and a 600 square metres yard inside. Its name Eryilou comes from a Chinese ancient poem anthology, implying the building suitable to hills and water, suitable to homes and houses, suitable to inside and outside. The 268-year-old Eryilou survived a three-month siege in 1934, and mortars only knocked some clods off.
Day 05 Departure, Xiamen(B)
After breakfast, transfer to the airport for flight to the next stop.
