Kunming is the capital city of Yunnan Province. With a history more than 2,400 years, it owes its importance to the fact that it was the gateway to the celebrated Silk Road that facilitated trade with Tibet , Sichuan , Myanmar and India . The city enjoys a pleasant climate and does its best to live up to its title of the City of Eternal Spring. Besides, Kunming is the focal point of Yunnan minority culture with 26 ethnic groups like Bai, Dai, Miao in the area. Each group has its own featured festivals.

Day 02 Kunming (B/L)
Take a one-day city tour staring from the World Horticultural Exposition Garden, Yuantong Temple and Golden Temple. Guoqiao Rice Noodle is available for today's dinner.

Situated in the northern suburbs of Kunming, 6 km from downtown, the World Horticultural Exposition Garden is next to the Golden Temple. As a first class garden featuring with typical Chinese and Yunnan characteristics, the World Horticultural Exposition Garden is the site of Kunming International Horticulture Exposition in 1999. In the garden you can find 5 big exhibition halls, 6 theme gardens, 3 outdoor showplaces and 2 big squares. They are connected to each other by 9 paths which cover a distance of 10 km in all. Along these paths, you can find different kinds of restaurants, amusement parks, telephone booths, shops, statues, and lakes. You also can see an observatory tower on a hill and cable cars which lead to the Golden Temple .

Golden TempleThe Golden Temple is the largest Taoist Tongwa (bronze-tiled) Temple in China and has been preserved almost intact. Buildings in the Golden Temple are made of bronze. It was first built in the Ming Dynasty (1602). Yunnan government was ordered to send the bronze ore to central China to make coins. But a war blocked the road. The governor of Yunnan ordered that the bronze be used to build a temple in imitation of the Taihe Palace , which was the royal palace at that time.

After finish the visiting of a famous Taoist Temple, you are going to have a look at the most famous Buddhist Temple in Kunming- the Yuantong Temple. In the 1950s, it hosted a grand ceremony to greet and send on the sacred teeth of the Buddha and so became essential in Southeast Asia Buddha area. It was firstly built in the late 8th and early 9th century. After two major restorations and expansion in the Ming Dynasty and the Qing Dynasty, the temple took on its present design, with covered corridors, bridges and grand halls.

Guoqiao Rice-noodle is the most popular local style of cooked noodles. Guoqiao literally means crossing a bridge in Chinese. Why it got its name has relevant to a legend. A young scholar shut himself away in a remote place to prepare for the imperial ex amina tion. Everyday, his wife had to walk a long distance and cross a bridge to bring him his meals. Usually, his meals went cold by the time it reached him. One day, quite by chance, his wife discovered a bowl of chicken soup could be kept warm by putting a layer of oil on top. From then on, she served the noodles and meat slices with the oil-layered soup and the young scholar could enjoy a warm meal every day. When the scholar did well in the ex amina tion, he credited his success to his wife's noodles and the noodle dish gained in popularity. Guoqiao Rice-noodle as diner is given a plate of thinly sliced raw chicken, pork, fish, bean sprouts, chives and bean curd. Waitresses soon serve you a piping hot bowl of soup which is where the fun starts. Simply put in all the raw meat slices. Cook the meat first, then the raw vegetables, and lastly the noodles. Keep stirring the soup until the meat changes color and is cooked. Your bowl of delicious noodles is now ready.

Day 03 Kunming (B/L)
One day tour to visit the Stone Forest, which is located 120km south of Kunming. The site has been known since the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644 AD) as the 'First Wonder of the World'.

Stone ForestThe Stone Forest, referring to since the Ming Dynasty (1368 -1644 AD) is regarded as the 'First Wonder of the World.' As the local says going, if you have visited Kunming without seeing the Stone Forest, you have wasted your time.

Approximately 270 million years ago this region was a vast ocean. Over time, the waters retreated and the limestone landscape was left. Due to a process of weathering and erosion, nature has created an art gallery of stone sculpture- present-day Stone Forest . The magnificent, strange and steep landscape creates labyrinthine vistas around each corner. Each formation has a story about animals or people associated with it. Some formations are elegant, some are rugged, and each has its own distinguishing characteristics.
