Summary
It is also a photographer's dream tour. Pack your camera, your tour will commence with two days of guided sightseeing of the highlights of Beijing ; a feast for the eyes and a photographer's dream-city. The largest, the oldest, the newest, the most completely restored, the most impressive; they are all to be found in wonderful, legendary Beijing . On day 4, we'll take you on a tour of the Beijing Hutongs, then you fly to historic Chengdu . With a population of 11 million, Chengdu is the capital of Sichuan Province and an important commercial transportation and communications hub for south-western China . Here, the world's first paper money, the Jiaozi was minted and it is also home to the world-famous Chengdu Panda Breed ing Research Centre. You will find a wealth of historic, architectural, natural and performance subjects for your camera, and for the ¡°inner man¡±, the delicious Sichuan Cuisine.

On day 6, fly to Huanglong. The scenic and historic Huanglong (Yellow Dragon) valley is made up of snow-capped peaks, diverse forest ecosystems, spectacular limestone formations, waterfalls and hot springs and is overlooked by the easternmost of all the Chinese glaciers. Huanglong is particularly recognized for its karst features such as travertine pools and limestone shoals; calcite deposition has lead to the pools being rich in algae and minerals, which results in orange, yellow, blue and green coloured waters. There is also a small population of endangered animals, including the giant panda and the Sichuan golden snub-nosed monkey. Stay overnight and next day, drive to Jiuzhaigou (literally " Nine Village Valley ") which takes its name from the nine Tibetan villages along its length. Jiuzhaigou was inscribed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site in 1992 and a World Biosphere Reserve in 1997. Jiuzhaigou Valley is a masterpiece of nature having dreamlike scenery and abundant natural resources. It combines blue lakes, waterfalls, verdant forests, snow-covered mountains, and the folk customs of the Tibetan and Qiang peoples. Next morning return by air to Chengdu and tour the Panda Breed ing Research Centre; expect industrial-strength CUTE. Tonight you can indulge again in Chengdu 's mouth-watering fare, tomorrow, transit through Shanghai to Huangshan ( Yellow Mountain ).

Huangshan's reputation derives from its significance in Chinese art and literature; it is known as the No.1 Mountain Under heaven, and is characterized by the ¡®four wonders', oddly-shaped pines, grotesque rock formations, seas of clouds and crystal-clear hot springs . In 1982, Mount Huang was declared a ¡®site of scenic beauty and historic interest' by the State Council of the People's Republic of China . It was named a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1990 for its scenery and for its role as a habitat for rare and threatened species. See how easily you can produce a photographic masterpiece by combining the beautiful trees, which look like full-sized Bonsai pines and the tortured rocks, in which they appear rooted, with a background of cloud-shrouded peaks. You will stay overnight in our selection of one of the hotels that accommodate overnight visitors, many of whom hike up the mountains, spend the night at one of the peaks to view the sunrise, and then descend by a different route the next day. Because of its mists and clouds, changes in the natural scenery are unpredictable, but always awe-inspiring. Lunch and an afternoon tour in X idi and Hongcun, two authentically preserved villages, will keep the inspirational juices flowing.

This could be just a beginning; we'll hope to see you again.

The star attraction of China is its Great Wall, a massive defensive structure built to keep intruders from entering the mainland. Today you will have the opportunity to traverse the ancient steps of Mutianyu Section of the Great Wall . This afternoon, the coach will drop us off at ¡°the most beautiful garden in China ¡±, the Summer Palace for a visit. If you desire, enjoy Peking Opera tonight.
[ Itinerary Description ]

Mutianyu Section of the Great WallMutianyu is a section of the Great Wall of China located in Huairou County 70km northeast of Beijing . The Mutianyu section is connected with Jiankou in the west and Lianhuachi in the east. As one of the best-preserved parts of the Great Wall, the Mutianyu section used to serve as the northern barrier defending the capital and the imperial tombs.

First built in the mid-6th century during the Northern Qi Dynasty, Mutianyu is older than the Badaling section of the Great Wall. In the Ming Dynasty, under the supervision of General Xu Da, construction of the present wall began on the foundation of the wall of Northern Qi . In 1404, a pass was built in the wall. In 1569, the Mutianyu Great Wall was rebuilt and till today most parts of it are well preserved. The Mutianyu Great Wall has the largest construction scale and best quality among all sections of Great Wall.

Built mainly with granite, the wall is 7-8 meters high and the top is 4-5 meters wide. Compared with other sections of Great Wall, Mutianyu Great Wall possesses unique characteristics in its construction. Today, this section of wall is open to visitors. A cable car is available to help visitors.

Then visit the ¡°most beautiful garden in China ¡±- the Summer Palace . If you think, ¡°Oh no! Not another perfect garden.¡± then you are in for a very pleasant surprise. Originally known as the " Garden of Clear Ripples ", the Summer Palace is a magnificent imperial garden located 15 km north of Beijing City . This is the largest ancient preserved garden in China and a former summer retreat for Emperors and the chosen few! The site includes more than 100 ancient style pavilions, mansions, towers, halls, temples, bridges and an enormous clear water lake. What is most enjoyable about the Summer Palace , it is simply a gorgeous place to relax, escape the smoke and crowds of the city and spend an afternoon walking. It is said one could just as easily spend one week out here as one afternoon.  Here is a rare chance in Beijing , to lose the crowds and ¡®clear away the cobwebs'.

In the evening, we offer you an opportunity to enjoy Peking Opera, China 's national treasure. Expert performers convey powerful emotions to the audience through song, dance, facial make-up, exquisite masks and costume, skilled use of body language and sympathetically integrated musical accompaniment.

Hutong represents an important culture element of Beijing city. Thanks to Beijing 's long history and status as capital for six dynasties, almost every hutong has its anecdotes, and some are even associated with historic events. In contrast to the court life and elite culture represented by the Forbidden City, Summer Palace , and the Temple of Heaven , the hutongs reflect the culture of grassroots Beijingers. The hutongs are residential neighborhoods which still form the heart of Old Beijing.

Day 05 Chengdu -- Huanglong (B/L/D)

[ Itinerary Description ]

Huanglong Scenic AreaHuanglong is a scenic and historic interest area in Songpan County in the northwest part of Sichuan , China . It is located in the southern part of the Mt. Minshan range, 150 km north-northwest of the capital Chengdu . This area is known for its colorful pools formed by calcite deposits, especially in Huanglonggou (Yellow Dragon Gully), as well as diverse forest ecosystems, snow-capped peaks, waterfalls and hot springs . Huanglong is also home to many endangered species including the Giant Panda and the Sichuan Golden Snub-nosed Monkey. Huanglong was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1992.

Due to thousands of years of geological evolution, Huanglong consists of numerous unique landscapes of geological landforms. Glacial revolution, terrain structure, stratum of carbonic acid rock, tufa water and climatic conditions have created this world-famous travertine landscape. These accumulated travertine landscapes and fascinating pools are Huanglong's main attraction. The total length of the travertine is 3.6km and it is thought to look like a huge golden dragon wheeling through the snow-capped mountains of the valley.

Day 06 Huanglong -- Jiuzhaigou Valley (B/L)
Today's highlight definitely will be three valleys of Jiuzhaigou , the Xanadu with dream-like colorful lakes and multi-levels waterfall.
[ Itinerary Description ]

Jiuzhaigou ValleyJiuzhai Valley or Jiuzhaigou is a nature reserve in the north of Sichuan . It is known for its many multi-level waterfalls and colorful lakes, and was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1992.

Jiuzhai Valley takes the name from the nine Tibetan villages along its length, and seven of them are still populated today. The main agglomerations that are readily accessible to tourists are Heye, Shuzheng and Zechawa along the main paths that cater to tourists, selling various handicrafts, souvenirs and snacks. In 1997, the permanent population of the valley was about 1,000, made up of about 130 Tibetan and Qiang families. Due to the protected nature of the park, agriculture is no longer permitted so the locals now rely on tourism and local government subsidies to make a living.

Jiuzhaigou's best-known feature is its dozens of blue, green and turquoise-colored lakes. The local Tibetan people call them "Haizi" in Chinese, meaning "son of the sea". Originating in glacial activity, they were dammed by rock falls and other natural phenomena, then solidified by processes of carbonate deposition. Some lakes have a high concentration of calcium carbonate, and their water is very clear so that the bottom is often visible even at high depths. The lakes vary in color and aspect according to their depths, residues, and surroundings.

Jiuzhaigou is composed of three valleys arranged in a Y shape. The Rize and Zechawa valleys flow from the south and meet at the centre of the site where they form the Shuzheng valley, flowing north to the mouth of the valley. The mountainous watersheds of these gullies are lined with 55 km of roads for shuttle buses, as well as boardwalks and small pavilions. The boardwalks are typically located on the opposite side of the lakes from the road, shielding them from disturbance by passing buses.

Day 07 Jiuzhaigou--Chengdu (B/L)
Fly back to Chengdu in the morning. The rest day is set in Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding for you to play with pandas which considered as the treasures of the country and a much loved creature in the world. Have a try of Hot pot as dinner if you like.

On May 12, 2008, a 8.0 magnitude earthquake struck causing damage to the area, killing about 80,000 people and injuring 26,413 in the area as of May 24, 2008.  4,021 of the casualties and most of the property damage were from Dujiangyan and Pengzhou, two suburban cities of Chengdu .  Although the epicenter of the quake was only 75 kilometers (48 miles) away, the urban area did not suffer any discernible damage. Those events inspired many acts of heroism and generosity by Chengdu people.

Historically, Chengdu has a special place in the annals of finance. The world's first paper money, the 'Jiao Zi' was minted in Chengdu in the year 1023, during the Song Dynasty of ancient China.

The big draw of Chengdu is delicious Sichuan Cuisine and local snacks. Fortunately, you will have a chance to taste Hot Pot in Sichuan Style today. Sichuan is famous for its spicy fare, and one of its delicacies is the hot pot. The Sichuan hot pot is a bubbling cauldron of extremely hot oil and water. Dip your choice of the variety of supplied foods into the pot, including meats, vegetables and tofu. It's a very social meal. People sit around to enjoy it and make a long evening out of it. As the saying goes, 'When in Rome , do as the Romans do', your Chengdu experience is fulfilled with this traditional spicy hot pot.
