Henan Province is the fourth largest province with Hui population after Ningxia, Gansu, Xinjiang. The Hui Nationality has a long history in Henan Province. As early as the tang Dynasty, there were Muslims lived in Henan; the number of Muslims here became more during the Song Dynasty, mostly due to the settlement of officials with their family. At the end of the Yuan Dynasty, Henan had become the main regions for Muslims from central plains area. In the late Qing Dynasty, the Huis had been distributed in nearly one hundred states and counties in Henan.

According to the sixth census statistics in 2010, Henan's Hui population is about 957964 people, which are distributed all over the province including 113 cities and counties. How many Muslim mosques are there in Henan? Henan province has more than 929 mosques. Among them, the famous ones are Kaifeng Grand Mosque, Kaifeng Zhuxianzhen Muslim North Grand Mosque, Zhengzhou North Grand Mosque, Qinyang North Grand Mosque, Boaixian Xiguan Mosque, etc.


 

Kaifeng East Grand mosque is located at No. 7, North and South Qingping Street, Kaifeng City. It is a national model mosque and an important national cultural relic protection unit. The mosque should be built at the latest in the early Ming dynasty and rebuilt in 1407.

 

Kaifeng North Grand mosque, located at No. 1 Tieta Four Street, Longting District, Kaifeng city, is one of the four oldest and most famous mosques in Kaifeng. It is founded in Tang dynasty. In 2008, as an ancient building, the mosque was listed in the fifth group of henan cultural relics protection units.

Zhengzhou North Grand mosque is the oldest and largest mosque built by Islam in Zhengzhou. It started at the end of the Yuan and the beginning of the Ming dynasty. Located at No.128 North Street, Zhengzhou North Grand mosque is the birthplace of the spread of Islam in Zhengzhou.


 

Luoyang Dongguan mosque, located in the middle of Dongguan Street Chanhe Hui District, Luoyang city, is an early mosque in the central plains and was once the seat of the first Iraqi association in Luoyang. The mosque was first built in the Ming dynasty and expanded again during the Emperor Qianlong period of the Qing dynasty. Now, it is not only a place for local Muslim to conduct religious activities but also the center of all Muslim social activities, such as learning, communication and sports.
