History

Hong Kong Museum of History can be traced back to March 2, 1962. It was called Hong Kong Museum and Art Gallery at the top level of Hong Kong City Hall High Block at that time. In July 1975, the Hong Kong Museum and Art Gallery was split into the Hong Kong Museum of Art and the Hong Kong Museum (the predecessor of Hong Kong Museum of History); and then it was moved to Hong Kong, Tsim Sha Tsui Star Museum, responsible for the historical and archaeological collections; Hong Kong Museum of Art continues to remain in Hong Kong Conference Hall High Block, responsible for art collection. However, with the increasing development of the Hong Kong Museum of Art, the site of the exhibition space is insufficient, so the Council is looking for another location for the museum. Finally, the site was chose in Tsim Sha Tsui, near Hong Kong Cultural Centre and Hong Kong Space Museum. These buildings together form a complex of exhibit buildings.
