Haicang Temple(Chinese name: 海藏寺), 2 km northwest of Wuwei City, is an extant relative complete ancient architecture, covering an area of 11,600 square meters. It is a provincial key cultural relic protection unit. The gate, hall, Lingjun Platform, Hall of Heavenly Kings, Wulang Temple are well preserved. Now the Haicang Temple now is the Haicang Park.

History of Haicang Temple

 
Haicang Temple, first built in Jin Dynasty, has a history of over 1700 years. In Yuan Dyansty, the forth founding master of the Sakya sect of the Tibetan Buddhism came to Liangzhou, contributing money and expanding Haicang Temple and other 3 temples in Lianagzhou. Haicang Temple became the Tibetan Buddhism Temple. During Ming and Qing Dynasties, the temple was renovated and expended again. It is an important temple on the Silk Road.

Structure of Haicang Temple

Haicang Temple faces south. Out of the red walls of the palace, there is a four-column, three-room and three-tier wooden building with ethnic characteristics. Entering the gate, you will see two magnificent halls. Bypassing the halls and crossing the ladder, you can stand on the Junling Platform to see the sceneries around Haicang Temple. On the platform, there is a well, which is said to connect with the well in Potala Palace in Tibet.
 
Each year, on the 16th of the first lunar month, the 8th day of the fourth lunar month, Dunwu Festival and other traditional festivals, Gansu and Qinghai’s Tibetan people will come here to get water for worshipping Buddha and curing diseases.
 
There is a Wuliang Hall on the platform, with brackets, beams of thick coarse material. In the hall, there are two clear writing and well preserved inscriptions.Out of the Haicang Temple, there is a stream.
 
With the development of Wuwei’s tourism, Haicang Temple became the Haicang Park and an tourist attraction in Wuwei.
