The weather in Beijing is of the continental type, with cold and dry winters, due to the Siberian air masses that move southward across the Mongolian Plateau. The summers are hot owing to warm and humid monsoon winds from the south-east bringing Beijing most of its annual precipitation. January is the coldest month and July is the warmest. Winter usually begins towards the end of October.

What to wear in spring

The spring is short in this city. And there will be very windy and dusty days. But it is not very cold. You can wear thin sweaters and long johns. If you are not used to the windy and dusty days, you can prepare a hat in case of the cold, as well as a gauze mask for those who have problem for respiratory system. After 5 April (Tomb-sweeping Day), the weather will get warm and you can wear a shirt and a coat. People are easy to catch a cold in spring, so you’d better wear more clothes. 

What to wear in summer

The temperature in this city can reach 30℃ above in summer, with no difference to the southern cities of the country. It is ok to wear a short sleeve T shirts and short pants. In July and August, there will be sudden rain at nightfall, which will be short and violent. 

What to wear in autumn

Autumn is the most beautiful season of Beijing, for it has an invigorating autumn climate and fine and warm days. After October, the weather changes a lot. And there will be drizzling rain frequently. So you’d better wear thin coat when you are out. 

What to wear in winter

After the middle of November, you will feel the winter of this city comes. You can wear a thick sweater, a woolen vest, long woolen underwear, as well as a windbreaker and a down jacket. Usually it will snow for two or three times in the winter. And it will not melt for days. So you’d better prepare a pair of non-slip shoes.
