2008 Beijing Olympic Games

2008 Beijing Olympic GamesThe 2008 Summer Olympics, officially known as the Games of the XXIX Olympiad, will be held in Beijing , China from August 8, 2008 through August 24, 2008, with the opening ceremony to take place at 08:08pm and 08 seconds. The number 8 is associated with prosperity in Chinese culture. The 2008 Olympics will see the return of 28 sports, and will hold 302 events (165 men's events, 127 women's events, and 10 mixed events). There are six co-host cities in China for the Games, including Qingdao , Hong Kong, Tianjin , Shanghai , Qinhuangdao , and Shenyang . National Aquatics Center £¬ the National Stadium and Beijing Wukesong Culture & Sports Center are the three main landmark buildings of Beijing 2008 Olympic Games.

Three concepts have been adopted for the Beijing Olympic Games, namely, the Green Olympics, the High-tech Olympics and the People's Olympics. The official logo of the games, titled "Dancing Beijing," features a stylized calligraphic character jing, referencing the host city. The mascots of Beijing 2008 are the five Fuwa. The Fuwa consists of five members: Beibei, Jingjing, Huanhuan, Yingying, and Nini. Each of the five names is designed to look like a plausible name for a small child, but when put together, they sound nearly identical to the phrase " ±±¾©»¶ÓÄã B¨§ij¨©ng hu¨¡ny¨ªng n ¨« " which means "Beijing welcomes you" and each of the five figures also represents one of the five Olympic Rings. The motto of the Games is "One World, One Dream."
